On what looked to be a sure win for the Notre Dame Hounds on Sunday night, a former player came back to haunt them.

Kaleb Dahlgren scored with less than a second left for the Broncos to tie the game and send it to overtime, where the 20-year-old eventually provided the lone shootout goal as the Broncos downed the Hounds 4-3.

As the final seconds were winding down in regulation, Logan Schatz picked up the puck and quickly sent it across to Dahlgren who was all alone for the one-time goal to even the game.

It was his second goal in as many nights against his former team.

"It felt pretty good to be able to get that first one, I was just hoping that I could get it off before the buzzer went," he said.

The shootout winner for Dahlgren was originally stopped by Notre Dame goalie Jacob Standen, but after the puck went up in the air, it hit the back of Standen's skate coming down and rolled into the net for the winner.

Dahlgren said that it was an exciting way to start the season, which has been a big thing for him since coming over from the Hounds earlier in the summer.

The Saskatoon product has quickly made some noise for the green and gold and found a place on the top line with Captain Logan Schatz and another newcomer in Conner Lukan.

"Things have been clicking really well," explained Schatz. "I've known (Dahlgren) for about ten years now. We played together when we were younger growing up in summer hockey and stuff, so me and him are familiar with each other."

He added that Lukan makes it easier as well, noting that he is a smart player.

The Broncos showed some fight on Sunday as well, coming back from a pair of two goal deficits to eventually take the game.

Trailing 2-0, Quinn Schneidmiller got the scoring started for Humboldt in his first game as a Bronco.

After the Hounds took a 3-1 lead early in the third, Stephen Wack jumped on a loose puck, beating Standen before he could see it coming, to make it 3-2 just 90 seconds later.

Jacob Wassermann got the start in goal for Humboldt, and after giving up the first shot he faced, the 17-year-old settled down nicely to stop 24 of 26 shots the rest of the way to earn his first win.

Wassermann stopped all three shooters faced in the shootout as well.

With the win, the Broncos improve to 2-0 on the early season. They travel to Kindersley on Wednesday for their next game.

The next home game goes Friday when the Broncos welcome in Melfort.
