The Humboldt Broncos had a pair of first career goals scored on Tuesday night as they skated away with a 4-1 win over Kindersley.

The Broncos came out flying past the Klippers in the first period, scoring a pair of goals while outshooting the visitors 17-3.

Reagan Poncelet got the scoring started 7:45 into the period when he buried a loose puck in front of Klippers goaltender Billy Girard.

"That's the start we wanted and I'm proud of our effort, and the guys getting us going," noted Head Coach Darcy Haugan following the game. "With Reagan (Poncelet) getting his first goal to start it off, I couldn't be happier for the kid, and the whole bench was ecstatic for him."

Ten minutes later, Logan Schatz scored his 10th goal of the season to make it 2-0 for the home side in front of 593 fans in attendance at the Elgar Petersen Arena.

The Klippers cut the lead in half early in the second period when Austin Nault surprised Jacob Wassermann on a wraparound goal.

It was the lone setback on the night for the SJHL's Rookie of the Week, who earned his 9th win of the season while stopping 23 shots on the night.

Matthieu Gomercic put the game on ice in the final minute with an empty net goal.

The scoring didn't stop there, as the Broncos went on a late power play, which led to the first career goal for defenseman Layne Matechuk.

"It feels pretty good. Being in Humboldt and playing my minor hockey here too it feels pretty special to score the first one," he noted.

The 17-year-old from Colonsay came to the Broncos after being sent back by the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers at the end of their preseason.

He says that playing at the EPA where he spent his minor hockey days has helped his transition to junior hockey.

Through 20 games, the Broncos now sit with a record of 12-6-1-1 for 26 points.

Next up is a home and home with the Yorkton Terriers, which begins Friday night at the EPA. It will be the club's second family night of the season, where $35 admission gets the entire family through the doors.

The Broncos return to Yorkton on Saturday night.
