For a brief moment, it seemed like the La Ronge Ice Wolves might be up to the task to challenge the Humboldt Broncos on Friday night.

The Ice Wolves, who got to the rink late, following a snowy trip down, scored the first goal of the game midway through the opening period.

Despite the Broncos heavily dominating play, including an 11-0 advantage in shots at one point, it was La Ronge stealing the first goal before Humboldt replied with six straight en route to a 6-1 win.

"That's kind of your worst fear, is they're going to be the ones who strike first," said Assistant Coach Mark Cross on the opening minutes. "We did a good job of staying relentless and continuing to play with a lot of jump."

La Ronge's momentum wouldn't last long, as Humboldt product Jacob Leicht tied the game just 27 seconds later, rushing down the left wing side to beat Jordan Frey after the goaltender slid into the net with the puck.

Cross says that they have been getting quality minutes from their depth guys as of late.

"It's nice to see that depth, and I thought Leicht especially had some burst in his game, which helped that entire line."

Leicht would later set up Derek Patter for the sixth goal of the game, using his speed once again to make a play.

Jaxon Joseph added a pair of goals in the win, while Brayden Camrud and Logan Hunter had the other tallies.

It was a fairly stress-free night for Jacob Wassermann, who made 21 saves in securing the win.

Friday was also a celebration off the ice for the Broncos, as Elgar Petersen's 82nd birthday was that day.

Cross noted that it was great to be able to get a win for Elgar to celebrate on his special day.
