The Humboldt Broncos scored five unanswered goals to come from behind and defeat the Yorkton Terriers 5-2 on Saturday night.

Yorkton got out to a strong start, scoring a pair of goals in the first nine minutes off the sticks of Cole Keenleyside and Shane Sherban.

Broncos Head Coach Darcy Haugan noted that they were simply flat in the first part of the game.

"They were the hungrier team and really caught us off guard," he said. "We anticipated a game much like yesterday, even though we showed them the areas we wanted to clean up. When you don't bring the intensity and you're being outworked, those types of things happen."

"However, full credit to our guys for digging deep and finding a way to win a hockey game."

The Broncos failed to register a shot on goal until the 7:32 mark of the opening period.

Two minutes after Sherban had given the home side a 2-0 lead, Derek Patter cut the Broncos deficit in half with a power play tally.

Following a scoreless second period, the Broncos took full control in the third, scoring four goals to ensure a victory over the Terriers.

"I think in the third period, our biggest difference was just the entries. We started to be a lot smarter with them," explained Haugan.

The Broncos tied the game at the 6:06 mark on a slick forehand-to-backhand move by Logan Schatz to put Terriers goalie Ben Laidlaw down and out.

Haugan praised Matthieu Gomercic's ability to start an odd man rush which led to the goal.

"What a great effort by him to create the 2-on-1. He just works tireless for this hockey team and really is an unsung player for us."

Layne Matechuk put the Broncos up three minutes later after the puck squirted free to him in the circle, where he buried it past Laidlaw on a slapshot.

With an empty net, Brayden Camrud put the game on ice with a pair of tallies into the vacant Yorkton net.

Hometown product Jacob Wassermann picked up his 10th win of the season, locking the net up for the game's final 51 minutes.

Haugan says there is a reason the 17-year-old is highly touted, and he showed it once again.

"It starts with Jacob Wassermann as well. Numerous key saves for us, and I looked at the shot map after the game and there was a lot from the slot," he said. "Jacob was very big for us tonight."

Wassermann made 32 saves in the win. His 10 wins are tied with Melfort's Evan Plotnik for the league lead.

The Terriers, who were playing with 11 forwards to start, had to cycle 10 for the final 32 minutes after Quinton Hobbs and Conner Lukan dropped the gloves following a kneeing penalty on Hobbs.

Humboldt (14-6-1-1) will return to game action on Wednesday when they host La Ronge (4-12-0-2) at 7:30pm.

A mini Remembrance Day ceremony was held prior to Saturday's game between the Broncos and Terriers.
