Conner Lukan scored with 7:44 left in the third period to cap a string of four straight goals, as the Humboldt Broncos came from behind to defeat La Ronge 4-3 on Saturday.

Lukan scored the first and last goals of the game for the Broncos, who trailed 3-0 after the first period before depositing the unanswered tallies.

Assistant Coach Mark Cross noted that the Ice Wolves made them work for all four points in La Ronge.

"It was definitely not an easy weekend. Hats off to our guys for persevering. They battled the whole game to come back and get the two points."

Lukan's first goal came on the power play as Logan Schatz set him up infront of the net for the tip-in goal with just under four minutes to play in the second period.

Cross said that finally cracking La Ronge goalie Jordan Frey late in the period was a big help heading to the third period.

"That little bit of momentum lifts their spirits more and the deficit isn't as steep. We were pretty happy all in all with the last two periods, even though we had the slow start."

Nick Shumlanski made it 3-2 at 8:57 of the third period, giving him a point in 15 straight games - the longest streak in the SJHL this season.

The former Flin Flon Bomber continues to show his value as a Bronco since coming over at the trade deadline, scoring in all but two games in green and gold.

Humboldt tied the game at 11:53 when Tyler Smith threw the puck towards the net and it deflected off an Ice Wolves defender's glove and into the net.

Parker Tobin drew the start in goal once again, with Jacob Wassermann away with the Regina Pats. Tobin faced just 19 shots on the night in picking up his 14th win.

Prior to the game, defenseman Bryce Fiske was honoured with a pre-game ceremony. Fiske, from La Ronge, played over three seasons with his hometown Ice Wolves before being moved to the Broncos via trade.

It was the 20-year-old's final game at Mel Hegland Uniplex.

The Broncos, off until Friday when they visit Battlefords, will host the Stars in a return meeting on March 3 for their final regular season home contest.
