Nick Shumlanski had a pair of goals as the Humboldt Broncos defeated the La Ronge Ice Wolves 7-3 on Friday.

Shumlanski opened the scoring 1:10 into the game, burying his own rebound past Ice Wolves goalie Merek Pipes to give Humboldt the early edge.

The Ice Wolves would come back with a pair of goals themselves to take a brief 2-1 lead over the visitors.

That lead would be wiped out a few minutes later, with Conner Lukan tying the game, and then Bryce Fiske and Ryan Strachnitzki scoring 13 seconds apart to give the Broncos a 4-2 lead following a high scoring opening period.

Fiske's goal came in his first game at the Mel Hegland Uniplex as a visitor, after the La Ronge product spent his first three-plus seasons as an Ice Wolve prior to being traded to Humboldt earlier this season.

Each side would score one goal in the second period, with Brayden Camrud giving Humboldt a 5-2 lead before La Ronge brought it back to a two goal deficit.

The third period saw more offence from the Broncos, as Shumlanski added his second of the game. Logan Hunter scored two minutes later to put the seven spot on the board for Humboldt.

Parker Tobin picked up his 13th win of the season in goal, stopping 26 shots.

The Broncos, who have scored 13 goals in their last two meetings against La Ronge, will look for more offence on Saturday night to cap the weekend.

Friday's win, combined with a Melfort win, has locked Humboldt into the 5th seed for playoffs, and barring an unforseen circumstance, a seven game series against the rival Mustangs.
