It was the second of back to back contests between the Humboldt Broncos and the Melfort Mustangs in a home and home set to wrap up the preseason before the regular season kicks off.

The Broncos were the horse that went wire to wire for the victory on Friday in the first of two meetings. However, the Mustangs, now parked in their home stables at Northern Lights Palace, got the jump out of the gates and scored a late 1st-period goal by Tyson Meyers with 1:04 remaining in the opening frame to go into the dressing room up 1-0.

Penalties were a mainstay in the contest, as both teams would find themselves in the penalty box numerous times, establishing the rivalry early in the preseason that has existed for some time now. It was a chippy affair as both coaching staffs still looking to fine-tune their roster during the last game of the preseason.

The second frame would have Melfort add to their lead with a pair of goals scored by Zach Smith and Beau Stevenson and head into the final period up 3-0.

The third period wouldn't halt any of the penalties for either squad, and it was once again the Mustangs who would strike and pad their lead to 4 with another goal from Stevenson, his second of the game.

Returning goalie Hunter Arps stopped 37 of 37 put towards him in a shutout victory and the Broncos would settle for a preseason split of the two games, losing  4-0.

Next up for the Broncos is the highly anticipated home opener on September 12th against the Nipawin Hawks.
