The tinkering, or perhaps you could say overhaul of the Humboldt Broncos is complete for now as the trade deadline in junior hockey came and went over the weekend.

The biggest move and the most expected did come to fruition, captain Anthony Kapelke, the team's last remaining 20 year-old was moved to the Steinbach Pistons of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

General Manager Darcy Haugan had nothing but positives pertaining to the Edmonton product.

"We really felt this was the best in everybody's situation, we're grateful for Anthony. Anthony has been fantastic here, I am grateful for what he has provided for me as a rookie head coach. We wish him nothing but the best."

That deal is for future considerations which is presumably a player coming Humboldt's way next season.

The team also shipped 18 year-old Rosetown product Brayden Uhrich to the Miramichi Timberwolves of the Maritime Hockey League for future considerations.

To fill the voids left by those two they acquired a pair of players with British Columbia Junior Hockey League experience. Josh Harvey, an 18 year-old defenceman and Logan Savard, a 19 year-old forward will join the Broncos.

"One is a really nice puck moving defenceman, a guy that can fill in some time on the power-play," Haugan explained. "The other guy is going to bring us a little bit more grit up front and is a pretty versatile forward that likes to compete."

Chris Van Os-Shaw, the 18 year-old winger acquired from Weyburn for Jarrett Fontaine has joined the team and practiced Monday. He is recovering from an upper body injury.

With the deals done the Broncos will now push on and try and secure one of the final playoff spots, they have 20 games remaining with their next Tuesday night. The Notre Dame Hounds will visit the Elgar Petersen Arena.

Haugan says it's time for the new leaders to take charge and put their mark on the club.

"As a young person or young player too often you defer your leadership responsibilities because you are maybe the young guy, where is now they're all young and it's their team now. It's their time to get behind the wheel and drive the bus because it's their opportunity."

Face-off is 7:30, it's another Toonie Tuesday night, anyone 18 and under gets in for $2.
