Saturday's are for the EPA.

The Humboldt Broncos had some unfinished business with the Melfort Mustangs following a road defeat on Friday, the fourth consecutive loss to the Mustangs on the year, in a game where they looked like the better team. Bring a Saturday night game inside the Elgar Petersen Arena, where the Broncos were 6-0 prior, and the revenge was there for the taking.

The first period, although featuring stable physical play in the two-horse race, provided no goal scoring.

The Broncos struck first in the second period, with Mitch Zambon picking up the game's opening goal assisted by Chase Felgueiras and Logan Foster, to give Humboldt the 1-0 lead. Just under three minutes later Nolan Kadachuck tied the game for the Mustangs. The Broncos, who were imposing their physical will, ensuring the game did not enter into a track meet, would regain their lead off the stick of Bryson Cecconi, following a beautiful play by both Logan Foster and Brayden Camrud who provided the assists. Halfway through the second, the Broncos would double their lead with Mitch Zambon hopping on a rebound for his second of the game, assisted by Bryson Cecconi and goalie Rayce Ramsy, to double the Broncos lead to 3-1.

The third period provided a thrilling tale for the EPA faithful on a frigid Saturday night, and all within the final ten minutes. Colin Schmidt got the Mustangs within one at the halfway point of the final frame. Brayden Camrud provided a powerplay goal three minutes later to regain the Bronco two-goal lead, assisted by Josh Patrician and Michael Clarke. The Broncos looked as if they would run away in the two-horse race but it was the Mustangs who put together a final stretch that took the wind out of the amped-up life of the building. Mustang's Head Coach Trevor Blevins would pull goaltender Shawn Parkinson, not once, but twice successfully, with Colin Schmidt providing both goals, the second with 21 seconds reaming to tie the game at four and force overtime.

Overtime has been the Broncos ally with the team winning 8 of the 11 games needing overtime or a shootout prior. Once again the tale of the tape was no different. However, it took until the final five seconds to provide a victor. Logan Foster, who has been on a tear providing 7 points in the 6 games following the holiday break, raced down the ice with blazing speed and wired a slapshot that trickled in behind Parkinson to propel the fans out of their seats and lift the Broncos to a 5-4 overtime victory. Rayce Ramsay got the start for the Broncos and stopped 38 of 42 shots faced.

Saturday night's alright for fighting, and the Broncos fought their way to two points, their 7th straight win through Saturday home games, and their first win on the season against the Mustangs.

The Broncos will look to make it two straight when they host the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Wednesday, January 30th.
