Hockey came early for local players, as the Humboldt Broncos held their annual hockey school.

Players from senior novice to peewee were invited to register for the four-day camp that helps guide the players and further develop their skills.

Newly appointed assistant coach for the Broncos, Mark Cross, says that the camp was well-received.

"It was a good turnout. I think they had a lot of fun while they were doing it."

Cross stressed that ensuring the players have fun while also learning is a big key for the camp.

"If they're not having fun it is pretty difficult for them to get better at their skills," he noted.

Cross adds that throughout the camp, they went over all the skills necessary for the game.

"We broke down every skill shooting, passing, skating, and helped each player learn what they need to improve on with themselves," he said. "I think we saw a lot of improvements throughout the week."

Each day consisted of one morning session and one afternoon session for a total of eight hours on the ice.

The Broncos themselves are getting ready for their own camp, which begins on August 31.

Off the ice, the team is holding their annual general meeting on Monday, August 28, beginning at 7:00pm at Jubilee Hall.
