On a day set aside to remember, the Broncos shook off an early morning road trip and upended the hometown Weyburn Red Wings 2-1 on Remembrance Day afternoon in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League play.

The win gives the green and gold two victories over the Wings this season plus it improves their season long mark to 15-6-0-1.

The defeat over Weyburn in front of over 800 people also got the Broncos off a two game slide which includes Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Notre Dame Hounds.

Head Coach Darcy Haugan said on the post-game show Friday that they hoped to learn from that downfall.

"We wanted to emulate the third period that we had against Notre Dame, we wanted to learn from our second period against Notre Dame, those were kind of the key teaching points we touched on before the game and it was a great 60 minute effort."

Humboldt put together an almost picture perfect first period killing three penalties and then during a late power-play, former Wing Chris Van Os-Shaw tapped home his league leading 16th tally of the year past Carter Phair putting the visitors up 1-0 with just eight seconds left in the first. Parker Wakaruk and Xavier Labelle picked up points on the opening marker.

That goal would stand as Phair and Carter Seminuk went save for save but the Broncos would get the next one, Erik Gardiner was left open during a wild fray around the Weyburn net early in the third and Daniel McKitrick fed the 17 year-old who one-timed his rookie leading 10th goal making it 2-0 Humboldt. Keegan McBride would collect his first point as a Bronco with the second helper.

The Broncos would need that one, Jake Wozney converted on a rebound while Phair was on the bench for an extra attacker, that's all they would get as Seminuk was just a minute shy of his second shutout on the year but the 19 year-old netminder kicked aside 37/38 in the win, his fourth of the season.

"It was two good teams going at it today, it was a very entertaining hockey game," Haugan continued after the matinee affair. "The fans were entertained, the players did a great job today on both sides, it was a nice afternoon."

Phair finished 32/34 on the night in his first game of the season since being sent back to Weyburn from the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League.

Humboldt was 1/2 on the power-play, Weyburn wll go down on the record as being 0/3.

The Broncos will now spend the night in Weyburn before venturing south to Estevan for a Saturday night contest versus the Bruins.

Haugan says they will need to be better there.

"15-16 turnovers in the second period, a lot of them when we had pucks on our sticks, we just didn't make the right decision. Even in the third we didn't make great decisions at times, if we make those types of mistakes Saturday we will be playing with fire and we don't want to put ourselves in that position. We want to make teams earn everything they get."

Face-off is back to the regular time of 7:30, the pre-game show on your radio starts at 7:15.

Three other games are scheduled for Friday, Kindersley is in North Battleford, LaRonge travels to Melfort and Nipawin is hosting Notre Dame.
