The Broncos continued to not allow themselves to go on a losing streak of any kind as they rebounded from Friday's loss with a gutsy come from behind 3-2 win Saturday in Melfort.

Humboldt is now 14-4-1 on the season with an important fact being they have followed all those losses with victories just like they did versus the Mustangs.

Chris Van Os-Shaw opened the scoring for the visitors in the second period after neither team hit the score sheet in the first frame. The 19 year-old Regina product was fed in front burying his 14th of the year after his linemates Trevor Posch and Michael Korol did some work below the goal line.

The home side would fight back and take the lead in the middle period, Ryland Freed tucked his first of the year past Garrett Mason just as a Bronco penalty ended then Tanner Zentner scored a short-handed goal in the final minute to give Melfort a 2-1 lead heading to the second intermission.

Going into Saturday's third period the Broncos were 0-4 when trailing after 40 minutes but they can erase that zero, Dawson Atamanchuk converted a Luke Kempf pass to tie it 1-1 at the 5:51 mark then Van Os-Shaw would get the winner from Xavier Labelle as he poked a loose puck past a Melfort defenceman then beat netminder Ryan Ternes to the puck in the slot allowing him to shoot his Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League leading 15th goal into a wide open net for the win.

"Friday's loss really hurt us," Van Os-Shaw said after the game. "Melfort is a tough barn to play in but the boys bared down and we got it done so it's good."

Mason, who was pulled after three goals in just over three minutes Friday in Melville was back to his stellar self making 29 stops for his SJHL best 11th win. Ternes allowed three on 21 shots from Humboldt's snipers in the defeat.

The special teams were an identical 0/2 but the Mustangs did hand Humboldt their four short-handed goal against on the campaign.

The green and gold will get a much needed and earned six days off before traveling to the Battlefords for a first place showdown with the Stars Saturday night.

Elsewhere Saturday league wide, the Stars edged Notre Dame 2-1 to stick within a point of the Broncos for the Finning division lead. The Nipawin Hawks blanked Weyburn 2-0, Estevan upset Flin Flon 5-4 in a shoot-out and the Kindersley Klippers embarrassed the Yorkton Terriers 8-0.

You can hear more below from Van Os-Shaw as well as Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko's post-game thoughts. Xavier Labelle was the first intermission guest on the broadcast.
