There was no shortage of local talent on the ice Tuesday night, as the Humboldt Broncos picked up a 7-4 win over the Kindersley Klippers.

The Broncos dressed six Humboldt born players for the night, with Mitchell Girolami getting the call up from the Beardy's Blackhawks of the Midget AAA league.

"It was fantastic," said Head Coach Darcy Haugan. "The thing with them and not only our whole team is they showed resiliency. Blake (Berschiminsky) and Reagan (Poncelet), and even Morgan Gobeil, they've been in and out of the lineup and it has really tested their fortitude. They've had to remain patient and with a positive attitude, which they have had."

Haugan said that Girolami stepped right in and didn't look out of place in his debut.

"Wow, what a game he played for his first game. He has a bright future, I really believe that."

Layne Matechuk of Colonsay, who played minor hockey in Humboldt, made it a total of seven connections to the days of old at the Elgar Petersen Arena.

It wasn't all happy faces for the Broncos on the night, who got down on the scoreboard just 12 seconds in when Austin Nault put the visitors up 1-0.

Through 20 minutes that lead had blossomed to 3-0 for Kindersley.

Despite the deficit, Haugan felt that they were right there, and just needed to put the puck in the net.

"We directed 23 pucks at the net in the first period. Our in zone time was about 10 minutes compared to their six," he said. "There was a lot of positives we wanted to build off of, and the only choice we had was to remain positive and build on it."

Humboldt's patient play paid off in the second period when the team exploded for five goals in a span of four minutes and two seconds.

Logan Boulet got the flurry of goals started on the power play at 11:25 of the middle frame. Derek Patter brought the deficit to one goal just 23 seconds later.

Just over one minute later it was Brayden Camrud bringing the Broncos back to even, with Matthieu Gomercic putting Humboldt up on a nifty backhand goal.

Klippers starter Billy Girard was chased after Humboldt's fourth goal in less than three minutes, with Evan Thomas burying a loose puck infront for the Broncos' fifth goal of the period.

In the third, Logan Hunter added Humboldt's second power play goal of the night, with Gomercic depositing an empty net marker after Kindersley pulled Close with three minutes to play.

For the Broncos, their resiliency in games has been a theme throughout the early part of the season, improving to 3-5 when behind after 20 minutes.

"When we were trailing after the first period last year, I think we had two or three wins after that, and you look at our start to this season and I think we have eclipsed that already," explained Haugan. "The real turning point was Jacob Wassermann and that huge save on the breakaway and we come back and score right after that."

Wassermann turned aside 27 shots faced, effectively shutting Kindersley down after the first period, save for one goal in the third.

For the Broncos it was their ninth win of the season. They will look to make it an even 10 when they host the Yorkton Terriers on Thursday night.

It will be the first of a handful of family nights at the EPA this season. The club is offering a special family rate of $35 for admission, and being the last game pre-Halloween, those who dress up will receive a goody bag.
