The Broncos have struggled all year long when they don't generate a lead in the first period of games but Friday night at the Elgar Petersen Arena they managed to earn two crucial points with a trio of third period goals in a comeback win.

The Melville Millionaires jumped out to a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes with assistance from a pair of power-play goals but Humboldt scored four unanswered to escape with a 5-3 win which earns them a split with the Mils in the season series.

"It was scary for a bit," Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko admitted on the post game show. "You see so many games like that where you dominate for the first ten where you don't get any goals and then all of a sudden they come back and they pop a few on you and you are kind of reeling for the rest of the game. It was scary at times but we did a good job, we never backed down at all."

The home team actually had the lead, Chris Van Os-Shaw extended his league leading goal total to 34 at the 14:40 mark of the first from Trevor Posch and Stephan Wack but Melville went to the bank in the final five minutes of the frame.

Alex Maticic and Tucker Scantlebury scored 41 seconds apart and Logan Karokachuk fired a power play marker with just six seconds left in the period.

The games turning point likely came at 8:08 of the second, while on a full two minute five-on-three power play of their own it took the Broncos 1:40 but Luke Kempf stepped in front and scored his fifth of the year to make it 3-2. Van Os-Shaw and Connor Swystun picked up the assists.

Controlling much of the play and out shooting the Mils 28-13 through 40 minutes the Broncos kept coming, at 9:57 Logan Schatz waited patiently at the side of the net to tuck a rebound past Colby Entz tying the contest 3-3. Logan Boulet and Wack earned points on thee Broncos' captain's sixth of the year.

Humboldt would finish the comeback at the 13:47 mark, Swystun slapped a Van Os-Shaw pass passed Entz from the slot on man advantage making it 4-3. Schatz picked up his third point of the night on Swystun's sixth.

Tristan Elder capped the scoring on a power move to the net for his 15th of the season and second with Humboldt at 17:26 from Brayden Camrud.

"The whole 60 minutes we were good in the offensive zone, we used our defence well, our defencemen got the puck to the net, we got a lot of traffic, we got a lot of shots on the net, the goalie made some big saves," Klimosko praised. "We did a lot of things I liked, we drove the net hard, we had some screens for once, it was good to see."

Carter Seminuk made the start in Humboldt's net, he allowed three goals on eight shots, Garrett Mason came on in relief making 16 saves not allowing any through 40 minuutes. He picks up his 21st win, Entz was great making 35 saves on 40 Broncos chances.

Each team finished 2/6 on the power-play.

Humboldt will now look to slay the dragon known as the Battlefords Stars, they host the Finning division champions Saturday, their last win versus them came way back on January 28th, 2015. That's a span of 10 games.

Face off is 7:30.

Elsewhere Friday night in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, Kristian Stead pitched his third straight shut-out as Nipawin blanked Melfort 2-0, the Stars dusted LaRonge 5-2 and Yorkton edged Notre Dame 2-1.
