There is a large gap between the first and fourth place teams in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Finning division, that was evident in the result of Humboldt's game in North Battleford.

The SJHL's best Stars scored a pair of goals in every period en route to a 6-0 blanking of the Broncos Friday night for their fifth straight win over the green and gold this season, combined the Broncos have been outscored 26-4. That includes three shut-outs.

The Stars opened the scoring just 1:45 when Coby Downs beat Ryan LaRochelle making it 1-0, Igor Leonenko would get his first of three before the game was four minutes old and Humboldt was in trouble according to Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko.

"At times we played very good tonight but when you start off bad, those two goals it doesn't matter how or what happened there. It's tough in this league to go down two to anyone never mind the Battlefords North Stars that early."

Jake McMillen opened a 3-0 lead during a Stars power-play then Leonenko scored on a bullet wrist shot making it 4-0 through 40 minutes.

Leonenko would get his hat trick marker just two minutes into the third, Layne Young would cap it at 6-0 with another power-play tally late in the third.

"There's just a lot of minor things that we have to clean up to compete with a team like the Battlefords for 60 minutes," Klimosko continued during thew post-game show of KMK Sales Broncos' hockey. "It's defensive zone coverage, it's tying guys up on face-offs, we've got to start walking before we can run."

LaRochelle would be on the hook for all six goals on 35 shots, he suffers his first loss with the Broncos. Taryn Kotchorek made 25 stops for his second shut-out of the season against the Broncos, this one ten saves tougher.

Special teams continue to haunt the green and gold, they finished 0/3 with the man advantage, the Stars converted a dangerous 2/3.

"We have to be better in those situations," said Klimosko of their special teams. "That's the way it is, that's where you might have a chance to gain some ground on some of these teams and maybe we pot in a power-play goal or two and they don't and you get the advantage there. It's tough against these top teams to lose the special teams battle and then expect to out battle them in the game, especially with the talent they have here."

The Broncos are now 9-20-3-1 on the season, they are in 10th overall, meanwhile the Stars are 23-7-1-2 on the year.

Humboldt is home to the Nipawin hawks on Tuesday night, it's the second last home game of 2015, it is the last Toonie Tuesday of the first half as well. Everyone 18 and under gets in for $2.
