Given the Broncos torrid start to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League season you can still hear whispers that pose the question are they for real early on in the year?

The naysayers could lean on the fact that they have had a slightly easier schedule than some teams but on Wednesday night, last year's Canalta Cup runner-up, the Flin Flon Bombers were in town for a marquee showdown that Humboldt won 5-3 en route to their ninth win in 11 starts.

The defeat was just the Bombers third of the year in regulation also in 11 contests.

Brayden Klimosko, the Broncos' Assistant Coach said on the post-game show that his team deserved all the credit in the statement like affair especially after a sub-par performance Friday at home versus Kindersley.

"We watched the film, Darcy and I over the weekend, we weren't overly happy. Tonight was really good, we needed a full 60 minutes because they are a good hockey club. It was a good win for us for sure."

The Bombers did take a couple leads in the game with the help of the power-play. Their captain Braden Lacousiere scored in the first and early in the second giving the visitors leads but Humboldt got quick answers from both Daniel McKitrick in the first and Chris Van Os-Shaw in the second taking the score to 1-1 and 2-2.

Erik Gardiner tipped a pass to Daniel McKitrick picking up and assist, Antonio DiPaolo picked up the second assist on McKitrick's ninth of the season.

Van Os-Shaw got Trevor Posch and Levi Hulston points on his league leading 10th tally of the year.

The Broncos would explode for three straight, Gardiner scored his third in just his second game from McKitrick and Hulston late in the second, Posch buried his eighth and Gardiner added another from McKitrick to make it 5-2 early in the final frame.

The 17 year-old hometown product has four goals in a pair of games, obviously Klimosko is grateful to have him back from the Regina Pats.

"That's why he led the Midget AAA league in scoring and those guys are special. You can't find them everyday and to get him just like a freebie, a hometown kid, it's nice. Hopefully he is enjoying himself here, we're definitely glad to have him."

Michael Korol chipped in with a pair of assists, Connor Swystun also had one helper. The 20 year-old defenceman also had a game changing hit behind the Flin Flon net during a forecheck that led the Broncos late charge.

The Bombers would score one late to draw within two but too little too late as the buzzer sounded sending the majority of the highly entertained 705 people left for the exits happy again.

Garrett Mason was excellent again in the Broncos cage stopping 29/31 in his seventh win. Zac Robideau allowed five on 26 shots before being relieved in the third, Brandon Newton stopped the only two shots he saw in relief.

Humboldt was 0/3 with the man advantage, Flin Flon was 2/4 as both Lacousiere's goals came on the power-play.

Next up for the first place Broncos is in Nipawin Friday night.

"It's never easy to win away from your own building here in the SJHL," Klimosko added. "Everyone builds their team around their building, they are going to try and grind you down, it's a tough place to play. You can really distinguish the men among boys there."

Face-off is 7:30, the pre-game show on 107.5 Bolt FM is 7:15.

In the other game Wednesday night, former Bronco Rock Ruschkowski scored twice late to lead the Melfort Mustangs to a 5-4 win over the Kindersley Klippers.

You can hear Klimosko's complete post-game comments below as well as from Gardiner who joined Clark Stork during the first intermission.
