The Richardson Pioneer Men's Fastball League has wrapped up their first season.

The Wynyard Blues downed the Fishing Lake Mariners 8-2 yesterday to claim the pennant.

Raymore born pitcher Mike Jordan now calls Wynyard home. He plays fastball with the Bulyea Rustlers as well in a more competitive league but he said he is happy to have a more local league.

"It's awesome that I can just come down to the ball field and be home and having supper with my family. It's fun to go to the city and play, but lots of these guys are cousins, brothers and relatives, so it's fun to play at home."

Jordan was the championship game's winning pitcher as well as the playoff MVP. He says that a younger roster helped them both this year and for coming seasons.

"We got lots of young guys to play, so it was a good build for our future fastball team."

Mike Jordan was named playoff MVP.

The Blues were the top team in the regular season and went unbeaten in the playoffs en route to winning the championship.

Jordan says he was impressed with how well the league was supported in it's first go.

"The league was really well attended this year. Fishing Lake, Wadena, Foam Lake, all the places had lots of people watching."

The hope now, Jordan added, would be to see other communities start up teams and continue to expand on the league, which will begin once again in May.
