After hosting softball provincials one week prior, Muenster is ready to welcome a wide range of teams as they host Bantam and Mosquito tournaments.

A total of 12 teams will be in Muenster this weekend, as well as the two Red Sox teams, as they battle for provincial titles in their respective age groups.

Games begin at 1:30pm Friday, with the Opening Ceremonies taking place at 4:00pm. Action on the diamond continues through until Sunday afternoon when the finals are played out.

Despite heavy rain impacting things early in the week, the ball diamonds have had plenty of love and care throughout the week, making them ready for play, according to Joel Taphorn.

"We've had a group of volunteers out over the last couple nights getting diamonds ready. The Mosquito's actually played a game here," he said. "Diamonds are in really good shape for all the rain we had."

Taphorn is one of the coaches for the Bantam Red Sox and he says that although they only played a handful of games, the team did well.

"We had quite a few rain outs. We participated in the AA City League and AAA City League," he explained. "We had a fairly decent year. There were times when the bats were alive and the pitching was good, and then times where not so much."

As for seeking a provincial crown, Taphorn believes that if the offence can contribute, they have as good a chance as anyone.

"If our bats are working, our defensive is traditionally strong, so it should lead to some good baseball for our team."

The Bantam tournament has teams from Kindersley, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Lloydminster, Macklin, Dinsmore and Unity. In Mosquito, the Red Sox welcome Melfort, Dinsmore, Lloydminster, White Butte and Coronach.

In Humboldt, the Midget AA Dodgers are hosting teams from Weyburn, Moose Jaw, Lumsden and North Battleford as five teams look to win the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League Championship.

Games begin at 6:00pm Friday night and continue throughout the weekend with the finals slated for 4:00pm Sunday.

Other provincial tournaments taking place in Saskatchewan sees the Humboldt Bantam Dodgers in Regina and the Watrous Bantam Lakers are in Langenburg.

Peewee play sees the Muenster Red Sox and Humboldt Dodgers in Saskatoon, while the Watrous Lakers host Tier 4 provincials with the Wynyard Blues and four other teams competing.

The Lakers, Dodgers and Blues Mosquito teams are all in the southeast corner in Weyburn for provincials.
