A world silver will have to do for the 2016 Bruno Axemen.

The Axemen lost to he defending champions from Ottawa 2-1 at the World final in a Gold Medal game that had fans entertained from start to finish.

Cody Thiel led the tournament in Goals with 11 over the nine games played, and also picked up 20 points.

He says losing at this level can be difficult.

"Definitely would have been nice bringing the World Championship Trophy home to Bruno, but I love every one of those guys in the room as a brother, and it's tough."

Three of the top five in scoring in the tournament were from Bruno, including Yan Marineau with 14 points, and Captain Jeff Bassett, who led the way with 23 points.

Bassett says the support from the community helped the team continue.

"It take the support of the whole community, from parents, to spouses, to workplaces, it's just everybody in the community for us to even make it that far, so we appreciate it."

Head Coach Ray Bender says defence was key in the final game.

"It was a hard fought game, we know how the Ottawa team plays, they play a very good defensive game, they just don't give you anything to go for. So you have to really capitalize on your chances."

Both teams were unbeaten heading into the final, with the two teams tying in their only other meeting during the round robin.
