The Humboldt Broncos have moved out 20 year-old hometown product Dawson Atamamchuk.

After a season with the Broncos, Atamanchuk will join the Weyburn Red Wings next year, something he's looking forward too with some mixed feelings.

"When I got the call there was definitely some mixed emotions for sure but I'm pretty excited to go down there and start a new chapter. It's a great organization down there, Tanner(McCall) the General Manager there and Wes(Rudy) the coach there seem like great guys, I'm excited to go down there."

Atamanchuk made the jump to the Broncos last season as a 19 year-old following a year in the Prairie Junior Hockey League, he claimed the rookie of the year award with the Delisle Chiefs.

He says it will be hard leaving Humboldt but the season he spent with the green and gold will be with him forever.

"As a kid that's your dream and I got to live it, in your home town, that's pretty awesome."

He won't have to look far for support either, another Humboldt born Bronco finished his career with the Wings a couple seasons ago, that being Jarrett Fontaine.

"He had a lot of fun there," Atamanchuk said. "I train with him during the week so I get to talk to him, it will be pretty cool to look to him and progress through that."

Atamanchuk scored six times and added eight assists in 37 games played. The Broncos receive a player development fee and a 5th round draft pick in the 2018 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League draft.
