The AA Midget Broncos begin their playoffs Wednesday night at the Elgar Petersen Arena against the Prince Albert Raiders.

The Broncos will have home ice for the best of three series as they come in as the second seed. PA was 7th in the regular season standings.

Head Coach Chris Hamilton said they have had another solid season so far.

"It turned out really good actually, the boys kind of came together and got some road trips under the belt. We had some injuries and some stuff happened around Christmas where we kind of slid down a bit but after that they decided they wanted to play hockey again and we brought ourselves back up to second place so it was pretty good this year."

Humboldt was awarded a first round bye with the second place finish and will be nearing a two week layoff since last playing once the puck drops Wednesday.

Hamilton explained how he hoped they stayed sharp and ready.

"Battle drills in practice to the point of almost scrapping where you keep that competitive edge and keep the guys going otherwise you are dull and you start off flat. Two goals in the first period if you let up and you're in a bad situation right away so keep it competitive at practice and all the drills high tempo. Hopefully that's the key and we can get going here."

Humboldt finished the regular season with ten players collecting at least ten points in 28 games this year, that includes four different guys with at least 30. Hamilton believes that depth could be key in the series and beyond.

"When you can put what you want to call your checking line or your third line out and that's veterans that won it last year and those guys are your third line and those guys can put the puck in just as good as your first line it's pretty hard for a team to defend five on five."

Game one is a 7:25 face-off, game two is back in PA on Friday night, the third and decisive game if necessary is Saturday at the EPA.
