It's a test of strength, speed, elusiveness, and determination.

The Saskatchewan Football Combine took place last weekend on April 6th at the Yara Centre in Moose Jaw. Micheal Solar (LB), Cody Bergermann (QB), Dakota Hoffman (WR), and Ryley Amendt (LB) with the HCI Mohawks football team took part in the combine.

"It went great, it was a great learning experience and it was an eye-opener with a lot of good competition out there," said Cody Bergermann, who is in grade 11 and took part in his first combine.

The combine is an opportunity for players to showcase their skills to U16 & U18 Team Sask, Senior Bowl, Can-Am Bowl, Saskota Bowl, and University and Junior teams. Players were tested in a bench press, 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, L-test, vertical jump, and standing broad jump. When testing was all wrapped up, players participated in one-on-one drills based on their position.

"I'm very impressed with how I did. It was quite fun because I was able to make plays and get around the defensive backs easily," said grade 11 student Dakota Hoffman who was invited to a University of Saskatchewan Huskies' camp at the end of April.

All four players from Humboldt worked hard with their coaches and teammates during the months leading up to combine.

"I just hit the gym every day and took part in athletic conditioning with all my coaches helping me along the way," said Ryley Amendt, who is graduating this year and plans to try out for the Saskatoon Hilltops on the first weekend in May.

The combine provided skills for the four Mohawks as they picked up many different tips from coaches at the combine.

"It was pretty fun. It was a good learning experience for when I'm in grade 11 and 12, and I plan on taking it next year and the year after that," said grade 10 linebacker, Micheal Solar.

While Amendt graduates and looks beyond high school football, the other three boys plan to attend the combine again next year.
