Werner Joseph Bender
November 29, 1941 – September 9, 2016

The death of Mr. Werner Joseph Bender of Humboldt, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Friday, September 9, 2016, at the age of 74 years.  Werner was born to Peter and Amalia “Molly” (nee Weiman) Bender on Saturday, November 29, 1941, at Bruno, SK.  He will be sadly missed by his wife of 11 years, Jeanette (nee Ecker) (Wegleitner) Bender of Humboldt, SK; his three children and five grandchildren:  Yvonne Pokolm (special friend Dale Pilla) of Asquith, SK, and her family, Chelsey Pokolm (special friend Zoltan), and Shyla Pokolm, both of Saskatoon; Donna (Mike) Schlosser of Humboldt, SK, and their family, Riley (Loralee) Schlosser of Coaldale, AB, and Cody Schlosser (special friend Kenzie) of Saskatoon, SK; and Russell (Lynn) Bender of Prince Albert, SK, and their daughter Ashley Bender; two step-children, five step-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandchild:  Bernadine Wegleitner of Watson, SK, and daughters Kyla Nagy (special friend Brandon) of Odessa, SK, Kirsten Nagy (special friend Mack) and son Sylis of Belle River, ON, and Clara Martin (Papa’s very special girl) of Humboldt, SK; and Bev (Duane) Koffing and family, Jennifer Koffing and Chelsie Koffing, all of Carmel, SK; three sisters and two brothers:  Phylis Bernauer, Rosaline Hafner, Dennis (Linda) Bender, Bev (Orval) Schreiner, and Larry (Karen) Bender; numerous nieces and nephews; and by Jeanette’s siblings.  He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Amalia “Molly” (nee Weiman) Bender; sister, Donna Bender (in childhood); and by brothers-in-law, Norbert Bernauer and Alvin Hafner.  The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Friday, September 16, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Greg Smith-Windsor.  Others taking part were:  Riley Schlosser, crossbearer; Marina Sand and Shelly Berscheid, scripture readers; Jennifer Koffing, intentions; Yvonne Pokolm and Donna Schlosser, giftbearers; Fred and Norma Staniec, communion ministers; Mary Schlosser and Mary Corniere, memorial table attendants; and Jeanette Bender, urnbearer.  Music ministry was provided by organist Marie Aubin, accordionist Tom Reinhart, and members of the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir.  Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Werner’s life”.  Interment took place at St. Bruno R.C. Cemetery, presided by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB.  Memorial donations may be directed to either the Canadian Diabetes Association or the St. Bruno R.C. Cemetery Fund.
