Sylvester Peter Stadnichuk
January 13, 1941 – January 8, 2016


The death of Mr. Sylvester “Syl” Peter Stadnichuk of Guernsey, SK, occurred at Lanigan Hospital, Lanigan, SK, on Friday, January 8, 2016.  He was 74 years of age.  Syl and his twin sister Sylvia were born on Monday, January 13, 1941, to John and Nellie (nee Paproski) Stadnichuk at Guernsey. Following his education, Syl farmed with his dad.  In 1958, he went to work in a lumber camp in Flin Flon, MB, for the winter.  Syl was also employed by Ingham Industries for a short time and then returned to farming.  On November 11, 1967, he married Margaret (nee McEachern) Beaulieu.  Margaret brought two children into the marriage, Darlene and Ron.  Three children, Twyla, Kerrie and Derek were born to Syl and Margaret.  The family resided on the Stadnichuk farm near Guernsey.  Syl worked at Central Canada Potash mine in Colonsay for 13 years, and at Merv’s Auto Sales for a few winters.  He returned to farming in his later years as a hired hand for Bernard Dodd.  An avid sports fan, Syl loved to curl and play ball.  For many years, he was the caretaker of the Guernsey Curling Rink.  A community minded person, Syl held executive positions on the Guernsey Wheat Board, and he and Margaret were caretakers of the Guernsey School for ten years.  Syl will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 48 years, Margaret (nee McEachern) (Beaulieu) Stadnichuk of Guernsey, SK; two daughters and one son:  Twyla (George) Kasoian of Burlington, ON; Kerrie (Fred) Pickford of Milton, ON; and Derek (Shannon) Stadnichuk of Kingston, ON; two step-children:  Darlene (Bruce) Bindle of Guernsey, SK; and Ron (Anita) Beaulieu of Slave Lake, AB; six grandchildren:  Caroline Bindle, George Kasoian Jr., Ashleigh Kasoian, Alex Pickford, Kathleen Pickford, and Ryder Stadnichuk; two sisters:  Jean James of Melfort, SK; and Eva (Ted) Senko of Humboldt, SK; two brothers:  Mervin (Vivian) Stadnichuk of Lanigan, SK; and Garth (Leslie) Stadnichuk of Saskatoon, SK; and by numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his father, John Stadnichuk (1966); mother, Nellie (nee Paproski) Stadnichuk (1978); twin sister, Sylvia Sutherland Gibson (1995); brother-in-law, Bill James (2003); and by his niece, Sherry (nee Senko) Hamm (1995).  The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Lanigan, on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Paul Paproski, OSB.  Others taking part were:  Bruce Bindle, crossbearer; Nikki Wiesbeck, altar server; Darlene Bindle and Doreen Possberg, scripture readers; Yvonne McCullum, prayers of the faithful; Darlene and Bruce Bindle, giftbearers; Don Courchene, communion server; Susan and Bernard Dodd, memorial table attendants; William Dodd, music ministry; and Derek Stadnichuk, urnbearer.  Interment followed at St. Mary’s R.C. Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be directed to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the St. Mary’s R.C. Cemetery Fund.
