Ruth Kuenzel
April 19, 1926 - November 26, 2016

The death of Mrs. Ruth Kuenzel, 90 years, of Lanigan occurred on Friday, November 26, 2016. Ruth was born on April 19, 1926 to Hugo and Elsa (nee Schnobrich) Scherzer in Penig, Germany. She attended school until grade 8. During World War II she worked as an airplane mechanic from 1944 to 1945. She later went on to become a controller for machines in the paper industry, worked in labs, and even operated cranes. She then married the love of her life, Gerhard Kuenzel. She had many hobbies including gardening- both vegetables and beautiful flowers-,knitting, music, listening to and attending operas as a child, dancing and cooking, especially rouladen and dumplings. In 1984, Ruth came to Canada to visit her daughter Marlen and ended up staying here for the remainder of her life.  She faithfully attended the Christian Fellowship Church in Lanigan. Ruth’s final message for her family was that she wished them to be “happy in togetherness and love”. Ruth will be forever missed by her two daughters, Marlen Kleinert of Lanigan, and Ilona (Martin) Hotzo of Germany; her eight grandchildren: Ronny (Lisa) Kleinert of New Zealand, Robbie (Tanya) Kleinert of Prince Albert, Rory Kleinert of Lanigan, Enrico (Yoco) Kleinert of Toronto, ON, Stephen (Anya) Jurisch, Heike (Goerg) Jurisch, Frank Jurisch, and Thomas (Susie) Jurisch, all of Germany; 11 great grandchildren; and her two brothers, Hugo (Renate) Scherzer and Otto (Rosie) Scherzer, both of Germany. She was predeceased by her parents, Hugo and Elsa Scherzer; her husband, Gerhard Kuenzel; 2 sisters, Brigitte Hertel and Inge Scherzer; and son-in-law, Horst Kleinert. The Funeral Service for Ruth was held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 2:00pm from Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home in Humboldt, SK, officiated by Pastor Brad Schroeder. Memorial donations in Ruth Kuenzel’s memory may be directed to the Lanigan Hospital Auxiliary.
