Rudolph Eric Possberg
April 24, 1937 – October 26, 2018

Rudolph “Rudy” Possberg of Humboldt, SK passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018 at his residence. He was 81 years of age. Rudolph Eric Possberg was born on April 24, 1937 in Humboldt to Joseph and Mary (nee Saretsky) Possberg. He attended Morvin District School until grade 8 as well as helping on the farm. Completing high school was an important goal for Rudy and he later in life completed high school through the GED program. Rudy worked for Saskatchewan Power for a number of years until he purchased the farm from his parents in the late 1950’s and then bought additional land in the Burr/Bay Trail area. Rudy farmed most of his life until he retired. He also worked for and helped others he knew in the area and friends including Wally and Rita Joa for many years. Over the years he occasionally worked out including working at Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting in Flin Flon, Nelson Lumber in Lloydminister and Huntington Hills Arena and Community Center in Calgary. Rudy purchased a home and retired to Humboldt in the early 1990’s. He continued to play a very active and loving role in caring for his younger brother Ken who lived in a group home and later in St Mary’s Villa. Rudy was an avid outdoorsman all his life and loved to be out in the woods or on a lake; he especially liked to be in the woods in the fall on warm days when the leaves were falling. He took many fishing trips with his brothers and friends including fly-in fishing camps in the NWT. Rudy was an avid reader and loved to stay up on the news through reading numerous magazines, books, newspapers and television. He could discuss almost any current news topic with intelligence and good information. Rudy played hockey for the Morvin Monarchs – playing on a line with his two older brothers Tony and Fred. He was also a member of the Saskatchewan Fish and Game Association for many years and regularly attended events sponsored by them. He loved to play cribbage particularly with his brothers (loved to get some of that Alberta money as he used to say!). He was an avid sports fan with strong interests in hockey (Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers – definitely not the Montreal Canadians) and football (Saskatchewan Roughrider fan of course). Of all his activities Rudy most loved visiting with his family, in particular his nieces and nephews. His love, laughter and gentle manner will be missed by all who knew him. Rudy is survived by his three brothers and their families, Tony (Estelle) Possberg of Calgary and their family: Richard of Edmonton, Anita of Calgary and Maureen of Ottawa, Ontario; Fred (Imelda) Possberg of Spruce Grove Alberta and their family: Loretta of Whitecourt Alberta, Larry of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Marilynn of Spruce Grove, David of Spruce Grove and Glen of Spruce Grove; Ed (Christine) Possberg of Grande Digue New Brunswick and their family: Michael of Cold Lake, Alberta, Rob of Moncton, New Brunswick and Morgan of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Rudy is also survived by his sister Agnes’ children: Joe Fahrenschon of Saskatoon, Gary Fahrenschon of Humboldt and Lynn Bender of Prince Albert. Rudy was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary (nee Saretsky) Possberg; sister Agnes Fahrenshcon; and brother Ken Possberg. A Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, SK on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Peter Olisa. Others taking part were: Larry Possberg, crossbearer; Tony Possberg and Gary Fahrenschon, scripture readers; Fred and Imelda Possberg, giftbearers; Loretta Schugmann as director with Dolores Hinz as organist and members of St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir, music ministry.
