Richard Martin Sarauer
October 15, 1925 – October 20, 2017

With family by his side, our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Richard Sarauer, passed away peacefully at his residence, St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK, on Friday, October 20, 2017, at the age of 92. Richard was born on October 15, 1925, to John and Mary (nee Braun) Sarauer on the family farm at Annaheim, SK, where he continued to live and farm for 69 years.  On October 2, 1950, he married Valerie Ramler and together they raised a family of seven children.   In 1994, Richard and Valerie retired to Humboldt.  In January of 2012, Richard suffered a third, more debilitating stroke which made it necessary for him to move to extended care.  Initially, he resided at Quill Plains Centennial Lodge in Watson, SK, and within a year, he was moved to St. Mary’s Villa, where he spent his final years.  Richard is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, VALERIE (nee Ramler) Sarauer; six children, 17 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren:  JUDY (Alvin) Landell and family, Trevor (Shayna) Sarauer and children Ashley and Kailee; KATHY (Mike) Logan and family, Lindsay (Dale) Sayese and daughter Danika and step-children, Kristin (Jeff) Logan and children Abby, and Noah and step-children; LINDA (Richard) Rumberger and family, Brian (Robin) Rumberger and son Emrick and step-son, Allan Rumberger,  and Tom (Nicole) Rumberger and son Holden; BRENDA (Kim) Berscheid and family, Sherri (Doran) Pronych and children Mason and Summer, Wayne (Lindsay) Berscheid and daughter Lillian, Jill (Jeremy) Jenkins and children Sam, Jameson and Ray, and Brent (Kristin) Berscheid and son Parker; MARILYNN (Gerald) Silzer and family, Erin (Daniel) Perrot and children Andrew, Elizabeth, Eden and Olivia, Michael (Robynn) Silzer and children Joel and Iyla, Brandon (Kelsie) Silzer and children Ben, Sam and Liv, and Byron (Shanelle) Silzer and children James and Jacob; John’s son,  Dustin (Taniel) Sarauer and children Zoe and Carter; and GORDON (Shelly) Sarauer and family, Savanna Sarauer, Sierra Sarauer, Kaitlin and Quinn. He is also survived by two brothers:  Bernard Sarauer, and Walter (Marcella) Sarauer. Richard was predeceased by his son, John Sarauer; son-in-law, Bradley Steele; parents, John and Mary (nee Braun) Sarauer; two brothers:   Arthur (Margaret) Sarauer, and Roman (Delores) Sarauer; five sisters:   Loretta (Adolph) Schreiner, Elsie (Walter) Pappenfus, Rose (Ed) Reider, Marie (Henry) Brunn and Lillian (Alvin) Ramler; parents-in-law, Anton and Clara (nee Busch) Ramler; and by numerous other in-laws. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., presided by Fr. Michael Yaremko.  Others taking part were:  Trevor Sarauer, crossbearer; Jill Jenkins and Sierra Sarauer, scripture readers; Kristin Logan and Michael Silzer, intentions; Richard’s children, giftbearers; Annette Magus and Cindy Ramler, memorial table attendants; Allan Rumberger and Wayne Berscheid, eulogists.  Music ministry was provided by director Loretta Schugmann, organist Marie Aubin, and members of the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir.  An honor guard was formed by members of the Knights of Columbus.  Honorary pallbearers were Richard’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Active pallbearers were Lindsay Sayese, Brian Rumberger, Sherri Pronych, Erin Perrot, Savanna Sarauer, and Dustin Sarauer.  Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either St. Mary’s Villa Foundation,  the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or St. Augustine Parish.   “We, the family of Richard Sarauer, would like to sincerely thank and acknowledge his St. Mary’s Villa family for their exceptional care and support.”
