Phyllis Strueby

February 23, 1936 – December 28, 2016

Phyllis Marie (nee Bauer) Strueby was born to George and Katherine (nee Monz) Bauer on the family farm south of Bruno, SK on February 23, 1936 and died in Victoria BC on December 28, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband Gregory M. Strueby in 2009. They were married in Humboldt on August 31, 1954. She is survived by her four children, Dr. Brian Strueby of Victoria, Brenda Strueby of Calgary, Earl Strueby of Victoria and Evan (Debbie) Strueby and grandson Justin of Saskatoon. Phyllis is also survived by her brother Ron Bauer (Gail) and two sisters: Bernice Nick and Irene Lueke and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mom lived the majority of her life in Saskatchewan in the communities of Humboldt, Bruno, Kindersley and St. Gregor. In 2012 Phyllis moved to Victoria. Phyllis was not one to sit still and enjoyed many sports. She enjoyed her time cross country skiing, curling and golfing and was proud of her hole-in-one trophy proudly displayed on her mantle. Her keen interest in dancing and music allowed her to learn many musical instruments including the piano, ukulele, drums, trumpet and even an electric guitar!!! During her stay in Victoria Phyllis was able to fulfill a lifelong passion of modeling clothes for senior fashion shows.   Mom spent her last week at the Victoria Hospice where she was well looked after by the volunteers and staff. Christmas was very important to her and she made a valiant effort to hang on for one final Christmas to spend with her family. Her four children were there when she took her last breath, holding her hand and ensuring her final hours were spent peaceful. Her final wishes were to be buried in Humboldt beside her late husband but part of her heart will always cherish her final years spent in Victoria. A memorial service was held for her in Victoria on January 3rd, 2017.  A public viewing was held Sunday January 8th, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
