Pauline Galgan
February 11, 1918 – August 21, 2018

Pauline (nee Wawryk) Galgan of Cudworth Nursing Home, Cudworth, SK, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. She was 100 years of age. Pauline was born on February 11, 1918, to Stefan and Mary (nee Holinaty) Wawryk on their farm in the Dana, SK area. This is where she grew up and attended school. Following completion of her Grade 12, Pauline trained as a hairdresser at Marvel Beauty School in Saskatoon. During WW II, she worked in Toronto, ON, at a soup and a munitions factory. Pauline then returned home to help her family on the farm. Back home in Dana, she met a dashing young man, Tony Galgan, whom she married in 1946. They began their life together on a farm west of Dana where they welcomed their first daughter Shirley. Seven years later, a second daughter, Gail was born, thus completing their family. Eventually, Pauline and Tony moved into Dana where they purchased the hall, and continued to farm from town. Many happy times were held at the hall with dances, weddings, and family gatherings. Pauline helped take care of the livestock and also tended to a huge garden which included many kinds of flowers giving her great pleasure. After Tony’s accidental death on June 19, 1964, Pauline sold the farm and worked at various jobs. She provided room and board for practicing and full-time teachers, worked at the Ursuline Convent in Bruno as part of the cleaning employees, cleaned and worked as a nurses’ assistant at the Cudworth Nursing Home, and was an x-ray technician at the Cudworth Hospital. Pauline was also very active in the community. She was a member of the CWL, prepared the Dana church for Mass every Sunday, and was a caregiver for her parents. Pauline took great pride in her daughters, and helped a great deal when the grandchildren came along. She was delighted when each of her new great-grand-daughters arrived. They were her pride and joy. Pauline thoroughly enjoyed the times when other family members dropped by for visits and sleepovers. She was well-loved by her family and will be greatly missed by each of them. Pauline is survived by her two daughters: Shirley Henderson, and Gail (Bernard) Huber; grandchildren: Laura (Bryan) Prefontaine, Lee (Shauna) Huber, and Blake (Sarah) Huber; and by her great-grandchildren: Kalli, McKenna, Hayden, Keira, and Kate. She was predeceased by her husband Anton “Tony” Galgan; son-in-law Ross Henderson; parents Stefan and Mary (Holinaty) Wawryk; her siblings and their spouses: Helen (Michael) Hrynewich, Michael (Rosie) Wawryk, Felix (Lena) Warick, Michaeline (Michael) Chilliak, Joseph (Emilie) Warick, and John (Marie/Elfrieda) Warick; and by in-laws: Peter Galgan, Walter (Ina) Galgan, and Anne (Jack) Cherwinski.
