Muriel Emma Amundson
January 13, 1935 – March 1, 2019

Muriel Emma (nee Gay) Amundson of Parkland Place, Melfort, SK, (and formerly of Naicam, SK), passed away at the Melfort Hospital on Friday, March 1, 2019. She was 84 years of age. Muriel the fourth child of Cecil and Mary (nee Salm) Gay was born on January 13, 1935, at her grandparent’s home on the farm near Tisdale, SK. Most of her school years were spent in the Arpsville School. Her grade 12 year was taken in Saskatoon and then she went on to Teachers College. She taught her first year at the Oriole School and moved to Naicam where she taught for 30 years. She met her husband Lloyd in 1958 and they were married on July 2, 1960. Their union was blessed with two children, Ron and Noreen. Following retirement, in the winter months, they enjoyed skiing, square dancing, and bowling. In the summer months they enjoyed golfing. One of her favourites, no matter the season was coffee with her dear friend and neighbor, Myrna. Muriel will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her two children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Ron (Denise) Amundson and family Quinton, Kaylie and Kenzie; Noreen (Vern) Meckelborg and family Samantha (Colin) Hartle and children: Blake, Emersyn and Naomi, and Chelsea Meckelborg. Muriel is also lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her two brothers: John (Joyce) Gay, and Elwyn Gay (Donna Johnson); sister-in-law Sylvia Gay; brothers-in-law Gunder (Merne) Amundson, Melvin (Joyce) Amundson; sisters-in-law Jennet Elliott and Marion (Donald) Schulz; and numerous nieces and nephews. Muriel was predeceased by her husband Lloyd Amundson; parents Cecil and Mary (nee Salm) Gay; sister Marion Goodin; brother Dean Gay; sisters-in-law Fay Gay, Helga (Ben) Davis, and Thelma (Walter) Vonau; brothers-in-law Arnold Amundson (in infancy), John Amundson, Ruben (Joyce) Amundson, Roy Amundson and Delbert Elliott; and parents-in-law Helge and Anna Amundson. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. George’s Roman Catholic Church, Naicam, on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Charles Nweze. Others taking part were Chelsea Meckelborg, crossbearer; Quinton Amundson and Denise Amundson, scripture readers; Kaylie Amundson and Kenzie Amundson, intentions; Samantha Hartle and Kenzie Amundson, giftbearers; Valerie Weseen, memorial table attendant; Denise Amundson, eulogist. Music ministry was provided by organist Cheri Berthold. Honorary Pallbearers were “All those who shared in Muriel’s life”. Active Pallbearers were Butch Amundson, Ryan Dauk, Earl Davis, Richard Dauk, Quinton Amundson, and Sanford Crickett. Interment followed at Naicam Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Alzheimer Society (1405 Faulkner Crescent, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 3R5) or to Parkland Place (402 Bemister Avenue East, Box 2260, Melfort, SK, S0E 1A0).
