Mr. Doug Kalinski
May 3, 1940 – October 1, 2017

Mr. Douglas Kalinski of Bruno passed away at home on Sunday, October 1, 2017. Doug was born May 3, 1940 to George and Katherine (nee Kowalski) Kalinski in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. He received his education in the Bruno District. After leaving School he became a professional painter, a talent he passed down to his daughters, and worked for Dana Radar Base. On May 10, 1961 Doug married the love of his life Geraldine Krentz and moved to Bruno to start their family. Doug loved his family, he loved to take them to Wakaw Lake for camping trips and fishing. It started out with a huge tent for everyone but they eventually upgraded to a camper. He especially had a huge heart for his girls Cindy and Patty they could get away with anything, including putting on face masks and nose strips and even tying up his hair in ponytails. He also loved to cook for his family some of his favourites being headcheese, sausage, and soup. The most memorable though was the ham he made every time his girls came for a visit. After Gerry’s passing on February 5, 2015 he found it hard to be alone and missed her dearly.  He had a lot of support from his daughters and neighbours.  Doug was a very caring and giving man and he loved to have fun.  Doug had many hobbies, as he and Gerry were homebodies they loved to garden and grow flowers, Gerry’s favourite being morning glory and pansies. After her passing he continued to garden but gave most of his yield away. He enjoyed feeding the birds around his house and had many bags of seed handy. He played guitar; often having jam sessions with his friends. He loved being at home but he liked to joke about getting a passport and traveling to many places, places unusual for him like Las Vegas. He was also known as “Mr. Fix It” fixing anything around his house and those of friends or family. He also built a fully functioning boat with his friend Gilbert Ludwig. His real passion though was his police scanners and short wave radio. He talked to many people and even met a few in person. They stayed in contact for many years. His daughter, Cindy when she was younger, also dabbled in using the radio and called herself “Bubblegum Shirley” he never forgot that and even recently asked her if she wanted to go on again as her alter ego. Doug will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his two daughters, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren: Cindy (Al) MacFarlane of Meadow Lake, SK and family Christa Boutin (Clay Ness) and children Brooklyn and Brodie of Meadow Lake, SK, Cara (Trevor) Sergent and children Deasen and Tikka of Lloydminster, SK; Patty Kalinski (Wayne Honish) of Willkie, SK and family Carla Honish and children Morgan, Rilea and Caleb of Saskatoon, SK, Cora Lee Honish (Rob Magensen) and children Remi and Niko of Saskatoon, SK; members of the Krentz family and numerous nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his parents George and Katherine Kalinski, his brother Allan (in infancy), his wife Geraldine Kalinski and son Kevin Kalinski. A funeral mass was held on Friday, October 6, 2017 10:00 a.m.  at St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church celebrated by Fr. Pius Schroh. Interment followed at St. Bruno Roman Catholic Cemetery.
