Mr. Clifford Poulton
October 26, 1930 - February 15, 2016

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Clifford Dayman Poulton 85 years of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson and formerly of Quill Lake on Monday, February 15, 2016 at his residence. Clifford was born on October 26, 1930 to Harry and Clara (nee Rueb) Poulton in a sod house near Masefield, SK near the Canada-USA border on the family farm W1/2 7-1-11-3 W3rd. In 1934 the family moved to the Twin Creek district north of Quill Lake.  Clifford attended the Twin Creek School to grade eight then took grade nine and ten by correspondence.  Clifford was very musical and played in a band where he played the guitar and accordion.  He was also part of the Merry Mixers Square Dancers.  At the age of sixteen he began to farm and not knowing at that time he would have a 60 year career as a farmer.  Clifford and his brother Don farmed most of that time in partnership.  Clifford loved the farm life and all aspects of it especially driving the tractors over the years. When Clifford met Joy Craddock of Kindersley, he quickly realized she was the one he wanted to marry. On July 6, 1973 he married the love of his life in Rosetown.  Together they were blessed with two daughters, Jill and Lorie.  Clifford did everything to perfection and the Poulton’s meticulously manicured park like yard was an example of how hard he worked and how much he enjoyed living in the country.  Many times their farm was compared to a park.  The farm yard had three homes and his parents and brother all lived there so they were a very close family where the kids could share many wonderful memories of their granny and aunt, uncle and cousins.  He loved running a mixed farm and had a variety of animals including cattle, goats, chickens, dogs, cats and even a pet pheasant and goldfish.  The family dog Maggie was his best friend, always beside Clifford in his later years.  In the early years he built a ski hill with a tow rope for the niece and nephews to ski and later his children enjoyed the fun with this and skating rinks on the farm.  The girls also loved riding along in the tractor with their Dad. Clifford loved his daughters but when the grandchildren started to arrive he was very excited to take on the role of grandfather.  Clifford loved to play his accordion and piano for them and he thoroughly enjoyed reading to them.  He was a very interactive grandpa!  The 20 year span of Alzheimer’s robbed the family of many things but even with Alzheimer’s Clifford still spent quality time with his family.  Clifford will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 42 years Joy Poulton of Humboldt, two daughters and five grandchildren: Jill (Brad Mott) and children Charlotte and Ryan of Saskatoon; and Lorie (Patrick) Farrell and children Connor, Angus and Rosemary of Smithers, BC; niece and nephews Vera Franke, Gordon Poulton and Allan Poulton; brothers and sisters-in-law: Bill (Doreen) Craddock of Winnipeg, Dick (Jeanne) Craddock of Humboldt, Chuck (Jenifer) Craddock of Ottawa, ON, Mary Craddock and Fern (Roelof) Heinen.  Clifford was predeceased by his parents Harry and Clara Poulton; brother Don (Ann) Poulton; parents-in-law William and Margaret Craddock; and brothers-in-law Ed and Frank Craddock. A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 from Wesley United Church Quill Lake at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Al Hingley.  Interment followed at the Quill Lake Cemetery.  Memorial donations in Clifford’s memory may be directed to Wesley United Church, Quill Lake First Responders or Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.
