Meril Bryksa
April 7, 1928 – September 1, 2017

The death of Meril Bryksa, 89 years of Lanigan, occurred on Friday, September 1, 2017 surrounded by his family. Meril was born on April 7, 1928 to John and Ann Bryksa. He grew up on a farm near West Bend, and went to school in the area. Meril met Jeanette Rokosh and on September 2, 1956 he married the love of his life, celebrating 60 years of marriage last year. They resided in Foam Lake where they started their family, and later moved to Lanigan which became home. Together they raised their six children and became very busy and active in the community. Meril worked for the Town of Lanigan for a short time and then at PCS Lanigan. He enjoyed gardening and watching the hummingbirds come to their yard. He liked all sports but his favourite was baseball. He loved the Blue Jays and even went to Toronto to see them play. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Meril will be forever missed by his children Linus (Cathy) and boys Kyle and Lane; Debbie (Terry) Ivany and girls Meagan (Regan), Heather (Curtis) and Janel (Tristan); Perry (Laura) and boys Skylar (Ciara) and Evan (Kylie); Blaine (Sonya) and children Jesse (Ashley), Justin and Rebecca; Les (Tracey) and children Ty and Jenna; Trent (Cheryl) and boys Rhett and Emmett; 11 great grandchildren Reid, Rowan, Tori, Sutter Beck; Cailyn, Avery, Grady Bradbury; Hannah, Andrew Kiefer; Aoibhinn and Luke Bryksa. He will never be forgotten by his brothers Donald (Eileen) Bryksa and Mike (Gail) Bryksa, sisters-and-brothers-in-law: Jean Bryksa, Hal Peterson, Rueben Norbeck, and Virginia (Lynn) Jeffries; and numerous nieces and nephews. Meril was predeceased by his parents John and Ann Bryksa, his wife Jeanette Bryksa, and brothers and sisters Walter (Sophie), Bill, Rose (Lloyd), Marie (Willard), Stina, Pat (Ralph), Ann (Victor), Emily and Adele; Jeanette’s parents Mike and Julia Rokosh; brother Melvin (Dolores) Rokosh; and nephew Jack Dvernichuk.

The Prayer Service for Meril was held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. and the Funeral Mass was offered on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Both services were held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lanigan, celebrated by Fr. Greg Smith-Windsor. Interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial Donations in Meril’s memory may be made to the Lanigan Hospital or Canadian Cancer Society.
