Mary Rose Poth

July 16, 1932 - September 20, 2016

The death of Mrs. Mary (nee Zimmer) Poth of the Cudworth Nursing Home, Cudworth, SK, occurred at Rosthern Hospital, Rosthern, SK, (and formerly of Middle Lake, SK), on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. She was 84 years of age. Mary was born on Saturday, July 16, 1932, to Joseph and Agnes (nee Botzang) Zimmer in Middle Lake. She grew up there and attended Lucien Lake and Middle Lake schools. Mary was very proud of being a cook at the sanatorium in Prince Albert from 1957 to July 1962. On October 4, 1961, Mary married Tony Poth. Three children, two daughters and a son, were born to them. Mary loved her role as a homemaker and was totally devoted to her family. A very busy lady, she was also a custodian at the elementary school in Cudworth for eight years, and a member of the Cudworth C.W.L. Over the years her favorite interests included quilting, crafts, baking, yardwork, gardening, family photographs, and heritage. Mary will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of almost 55 years, Tony Poth of Cudworth; their three children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren: Jeff (Melinda) Poth of Calgary, Alberta and their family, Thomas Poth and Laura Poth; Sandra (Randy) Durant of Martensville, SK, and their family, Crystal (Chris) Chahley and their children Addison and Logan, and Tyler (Jenna) Durant; Brenda (Mike) Birchfield of Abbotsford, BC, and their family, Jacob Birchfield and Justin Birchfield. She is also survived by two sisters: Tilly Mannen of Brantford, ON; and Margaret Goller of Wakaw, SK; sister-in-law, Irene Zimmer of Middle Lake, SK; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Agnes (nee Botzang) Zimmer; one brother, Joe Zimmer Jr.; one sister, Cecilia Horn; and by three brothers-in-law, John Mannen, Edward Goller, and Charlie Horn. The Prayer Service for Mary was held at Canadian Martyrs R.C. Church, Middle Lake, on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. The scripture reader was Randy Durant, and intentions were led by Shirley Borstmayer. The Funeral Mass was offered at Canadian Martyrs R.C. Church on Friday, September 23, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Colin Roy. Others taking part were: Sandra Durant, eulogist; Laura Poth, crossbearer; Melinda Poth and Dan Howard, scripture readers; Shirley Borstmayer, intentions; Janet and Brian Ortman, giftbearers; Diane Howard and Cindy Leuke, memorial table attendants; and Renee De Moissac, music ministry. The honorary pallbearer was Roger Zimmer Jr. Active pallbearers were Tyler Durant, Blair Horn, Thomas Poth, Josh Parenteau, Justin Birchfield, and Jacob Birchfield. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Martyrs Cemetery Fund.
