Marvin Joseph Schedlosky
August 4, 1957 – August 8, 2016

The death of Marvin Schedlosky of Muenster, SK occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on August 8, 2016.  He was 59 years of age. Marvin was the fourth eldest child born to Henry and Veronica (nee Gerwing) Schedlosky on August 4, 1957.  He was just about eight months old when his parents moved into Humboldt from the farm in the Bay Trail District.  He received his education from St. Augustine School and later in life he obtained his GED.  He was taught the values of hard work by his parents, choosing several paths in his career choices.  He spent 25 years employed at the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, specializing in construction.  In 1976 while at his first job at Hertz Bus, he met the love of his life and soul mate, his wife, Leona Lengyel, the youngest  daughter  of William and Vivian (Kaun) Lengyel of Middle Lake.  On Nov. 5, 1977 they were married and began their life together.  From this union, five children were born:  Jennifer, Catherine, William, Lorraine and Jeffrey.  Marvin enjoyed a good game of crib or “31”, often challenging mom to a good game of crib until he won the rubber! Fishing and tinkering were also among Marvin’s things to do.  Music and sing-a-longs were often a part of family gatherings at Mom and Dad’s.  Marvin never passed up a chance to be there.  With Val and Duane on the guitars, Mom on the button accordion, and Dad on the harmonica, many good times were had.  There was lots of singing, dancing, and laughter.  Marvin cherished these memories, even until his final moments.  At Easter, the family gathered at Marvin and Leona’s with often 50 people in attendance.  When Mom turned 75, we planned a surprise party for her that summer.  Marvin generously offered his home as celebration headquarters.  He worked feverously to clean out his garage and spruce up his yard.  Little did he know that the celebration was also for his 50th birthday!  It was fun to pull the wool over his eyes too!  The Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Humboldt Broncos were his favourite teams, either watching them on tv, or listening to the game on the radio.  Marvin had a special pride for each one of his children and grandchildren.  He looked forward to them coming home to visit.  Each one of them will hold special to themselves treasured memories, or learn of how much he cherished them through the many stories to be shared about him.  Marvin is lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Leona (nee Lengyel) Schedlosky; their five children:  Jen (Cory) Bautz and their daughters: Carlee and Jordis; Cathy (Levi) Kohle and their children, Emmerson and Lucas; BJ Schedlosky; Lori (Phillip) Crook and their children, Alyssa, Preston and Carson; Jeffrey (Tessa) Schedlosky and their children Meah and Mavrik.  Also left to cherish his memory are his mother, Veronica (nee Gerwing)  Schedlosky; his brothers and sisters: Brenda (Joseph) Lovas, Denis (Joanne) Schedlosky, Henry (Maureen) Schedlosky, Duane (Charity) Schedlosky, MaryAnn (Jerry) Marksteiner,  Val (Sean) Francais, and Joe (Roberta) Schedlosky; sister-in-law Judy Schedlosky; brother-in-law  Don Moore; and numerous aunts, uncles,  nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Marvin was predeceased by his father Henry Schedlosky Sr.; his brother Larry; nieces Loralee and Kelley Schedlosky; grandparents Joseph and Mary (nee Ratch) Schedlosky, Joseph and Anna (nee Gessner) Gerwing; and by his parents-in-law Bill and Vivian (Kaun) Lengyel; sister-in-law Valerie Moore; and niece and nephew Donna and Scott Moore.  A Prayer Service was held for Marvin at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. led by Jenny Irwin.  Scripture readers were Christine Bergermann and Joanne Schedlosky.  A eulogy was delivered by Adam Schedlosky. The Funeral Mass was offered from St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Fr. Joseph Salihv.  Others taking part were:  Jordis Bautz, crossbearer; Christine Bergermann and Joanne Schedlosky, scripture readers; Carlee Bautz and Alyssa Schedlosky, intentions;  Valerie Francais and MaryAnn Marksteiner, giftbearers;  Josalie Schedlosky, memorial table attendant.  Music ministry was provided by director Loretta Schugmann, organist  Marie Aubin and members of the St. Augustine Parish Choir.  Honorary pallbearers were: Denis Schedlosky, Henry Schedlosky, Duane Schedlosky, Joe Schedlosky, Sean Francais and Jerry Marksteiner.  Urnbearer was Leona Schedlosky.  Interment followed at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be directed to the Humboldt District Hospital General Equipment Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society.
