Margaret Emelia Madsen
February 16, 1940 – July 16, 2017

Margaret Emelia Madsen, 77 years, of Muenster, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Humboldt District Hospital.  Margaret was born on February 16, 1940 at Colonsay, SK to Edvald and Ebba (nee Johnson) Kristjansson.  She obtained her education at Nicklet and Meacham Schools.  Following that she attended U of S in Saskatoon and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English in 1960.  Margaret commenced working for the Western Producer in Saskatoon.  In early December of 1962 she met the love of her life John Madsen and after a whirlwind romance they were married on February 23, 1963.  John's employment took them to many communities and over the years she worked as a reporter and editor for the Saskatoon Star Phoenix, Winfield Calendar and Kelowna Daily Courier.  Margaret and her daughter Karen also owned and published a monthly tabloid called “Horse Action” in the Okanagan Valley. She had many hobbies, including gardening, watching curling and the Blue Jays, but her favourite was bird watching. She also loved cooking and baking; often her counters would be full of cinnamon buns or freshly made jam when they arrived home after school. As a family they spent the summers camping;  John and Margaret were also very fortunate to have many winter vacations to warmer destinations such as Hawaii and Arizona, with Marsh Harbour in the Bahamas being her very favourite. In 1998 after 25 years living in the Okanagan Valley in BC, they returned to her roots of Saskatchewan to be closer to family, and eventually settled in Muenster until her passing. Margaret loved all of her six grandchildren so very much, instilling in all of them a love for crafts, projects, reading and of course bird watching. Margaret will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years John Madsen of Muenster; one son, two daughters and six grandchildren: Karl (Yvonne) Madsen of Lake Country, BC; Kristin Farquharson (Dave Balderstone) of Hanley and family Cameron Farquharson of Hamilton, ON, Megan Farquharson of Vegreville, AB and Ian Farquharson of Hamilton, ON; and Karen (Tony) Kolkman and family Theodore Kolkman, Hannah Kolkman and Adrienne Kolkman all of Annaheim;  four brothers and  two sisters:  Norman (Karen) Kristjansson, Evelyn (August) Yaworski of Humboldt, Howard (Cindi) Kristjansson of Winnipeg, MB, Alvin (Sharon) Kristjansson of Sundre, AB, Dale (Shelley) Kristjansson of Orlando, FL USA and Linda (Howard) Clavelle of Prince Albert; brother-in-law Heino Wiegand of Penticton, BC and by numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her parents Edvald and Ebba Kristjansson; brother Fredric Kristjansson and sister Joyce Wiegand.  A Celebration Of Life will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home Hwy 5 East Humboldt. A private family interment followed at a later date at Colonsay  Cemetery.  Memorial donations in Margaret's memory may be directed to Humboldt District Hospital Foundation or Nature Saskatchewan.
