Lucille Rath

October 9, 1927 – February 4, 2017

Lucille (nee Classen) Rath of Saskatoon, SK, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at the age of 89 years.  Lucille was born to Michael and Clara (nee Ries) Classen in Watson, SK, on October 9, 1927.  She and her 11 siblings were raised on a farm near St. Gregor, SK.  Lucille attended St. Ursuline Academy in Bruno, Teachers’ College in Saskatoon, and later attained her Education Degree from the University of Saskatchewan.  She married Erwin Rath in 1947 and lived on a farm near Muenster where they raised their four children.  Later they moved to Humboldt and, finally, to Saskatoon.  Lucille is survived by her four children:  Rodney (Sandra), Jerry (Sue), Bonnie (Al) Kraus, and Maxine (Gary) Meschishnick; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister:  Jim Classen, Margaurite Conway, Andrew Classen, and Daniel Classen; and by brother-in-law Barry Hillis.  She was predeceased by her husband, Erwin Rath (March 22, 2010); parents, Michael and Clara (nee Ries) Classen; four brothers:  Charles, George, Vincent, and Jerome; three sisters:  Rita Classen, Isabelle Hilbert, and Marie Herriges; and by sisters-in-law, Dora Loehr and Marie Buschman. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Thursday, February 9, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Joseph Salihu.  Others taking part were:  Megan Meschishnick, crossbearer; Lacey Rath and Megan Meschishnick, scripture readers; Sam Meschishnick, intentions; Serena Rath, Emma Rath and Olivia Rath, giftbearers; Gary Meschishnick, eulogist; and Mary Schlosser, memorial table attendant.  Music ministry was provided by director Loretta Schugmann, organist Marie Aubin, and members of the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir.  Active pallbearers were Scott Wheeler, John Bueckert, Bradley Rath, Michael Rath, Thomas Rath and Sam Meschishnick.  Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Lucille’s life”.  Interment followed at St. Peter’s R.C. Cemetery, Muenster.  Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. Augustine Parish Centre or the St. Peter’s R.C. Cemetery Fund.
