Lena McLean
November 8, 1939 – February 27, 2016

 The death of Mrs. Lena (nee Halayko) McLean of Lanigan, SK, occurred at Lanigan Hospital on Saturday, February 27, 2016.  She was 76 years of age.  Lena was born on Wednesday, November 8, 1939, to Peter and Ann (nee Gryba) Halayko at Shell River, MB.  She grew up there and attended Zelina District School.  Following her education, Lena began working as a nursing assistant in various places.  On April 17, 1971, she married Allan McLean.  They resided in Lanigan, and Lena resumed her career there for 25 years.  She was also very active with the church and the community.  Throughout her life, Lena pursued a number of hobbies and interests, including quilting, needlework, petit point, cross stitch, painting, gardening, golfing and fishing.  In addition, she and Allan enjoyed travelling within Canada and the United States, and spent many summers at Fishing Lake.  One of Lena’s greatest passions was hummingbirds; she had feeders everywhere, and numerous hummingbird plates adorned her house.  Lena will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of nearly 45 years, Allan McLean; daughter Bonnie Jackson and her children, Tyler Jackson and Nathan Jackson; son Ricky Tarasoff and his daughter Amy; four sisters:  Ann (Orest) Antonation, Ollie (Chris) Huppertz, Jeanie (Bill) Montgomery, and Patsy (Everett) Paul; sister-in-law, Audrey; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Ann (nee Gryba) Halayko; and by two brothers and one sister:  Bill Halyko, Mary (Amel) Hyra, and Paul Halayko.  The Prayer Service for Lena was held at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Lanigan, on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at 7:00 p.m., led by Laura Novecosky and organist William Dodd.  Others taking part were:  Dianne Pisio, scripture reader; Dorothy Zimmer, intentions; and Nathan Jackson, eulogist.  The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Mary’s R.C. Church on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Paul Paproski, OSB.  Others taking part were:  Larry Sinnett, cross bearer and intentions; Dianne Pisio and Rita Schmidt, scripture readers; Val and Gabe Wolfe, gift bearers; Nathan Jackson, urn bearer; Marilyn Miller and Pat  Sinnett, memorial table attendants.  Music ministry was provided by director Othello Ubalde, organist William Dodd, and the St. Mary’s Parish Choir.  An honor guard was formed by members of the C.W.L.  Interment will take place at a later date.  Memorial donations may be directed to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the Kidney Foundation.
