Kevin Pitzel
August 19, 1971 – December 19, 2016

The death of Kevin Pitzel of Rosthern, SK (and formerly of Humboldt and Pilger) occurred at the Rosthern Hospital on Monday, December 19, 2016.  He was 45 years of age.  Kevin was born on Aug 19,1971 to Alois and Johanna (nee Winters)  Pitzel. He left us to be in his eternal home on Dec 19,2016, surrounded by the love of his family.  Kevin grew up on the family farm just east of Pilger, SK.  He enjoyed life on the farm: feeding chickens, picking berries, checking crops, carrying lunch out during harvest, and of course playing sports with his five siblings.  Winter brought snow fort building, road hockey, and carrying wood for the wood stove and hanging out with the family dog “Sport”.   As a young adult Kevin, resided at the Humboldt Group Home and participated in many of the Special Olympic Sports, his favorite was bowling. During his time in Humboldt he worked at Futuristic Industries.  As his health declined and Kevin needed more care, he became a permanent resident at the Rosthern Nursing Home and worked at the Valley Action Workshop.  Kevin was well known for his fun and teasing personality. He would tell his story with a  straight face and then you would  see his big grin and know it was all in fun.  Kevin loved working at Valley Action and could never quite understand why there had to be so many Stat holidays!  Kevin’s passing has left an empty spot in his family’s hearts especially that of his Mom, Johanna (nee Winters) Pitzel; and his five siblings:  Gerard (Sherry) Pitzel and their son Tyler; Maryann (Don) Niekamp and their sons Jared and Evan, David (Denise) Pitzel and their family, Brynn and Nicole; Kim (Karen) Pitzel and their family Kaitlyn and Karson; Linda (Ric) Losonsky and their family Natasha and Kyle. He was predeceased by his Dad, Alois Pitzel in 2003. A Funeral Mass was held on Friday, December 23, 2016 at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Pilger, SK at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Greg Smith Windsor.  Others taking part were: Kaitlyn and Karson Pitzel, altar servers; Nicole Pitzel, crossbearer; Karen Pitzel and Denise Pitzel, scripture readers; Maryann Niekamp, music ministry; Kim Pitzel, intentions; Gerard Pitzel and Don Niekamp, giftbearers; Maryann Niekamp and Dave Pitzel, words of remembrance. Pallbearers were:  Jared Niekamp, Natasha Losonsky, Brynn Pitzel, Evan Niekamp, Kyle Losonsky and Tyler Pitzel.  Interment followed at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Pilger, SK.  Memorial donations may be directed to the Kinsmen Telemiracle 2217C Hanselman Court, Saskatoon, SK.  S7L 6A8  Special Thanks to the Humboldt Group Home and Futuristic Industries where Kevin spent many happy years. Thanks to the many places where Kevin was in respite care… and a huge THANK YOU to the Rosthern Mennonite Nursing Home and Valley Action Workshop. The staff and residents were truly a big part of Kevin’s extended family.  From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for making Kevin part of your family
