Jeanne Hantke Bell
October 19, 1964 – September 24, 2017

Jeanne was born the tenth child of Agnes an Alfred Hantke. She attended grade school in Carmel and graduated from Humboldt Collegiate Institute in 1982. She continued on to complete an Honours B. Comm at the University of Saskatchewan in 1986. After graduation she worked at Saskatchewan Communications for two years before taking a job with Telus in Edmonton, AB. In 2002, Jeanne left Telus and began working at Capital Health (now Alberta Health Services) where she continued to work until her passing. Jeanne was lucky enough to meet her soul mate early on in life, just one year after graduating high school Introduced by a mutual friend, Stacey Knight, Rick and Jeanne quickly fell in love and not 6 months later had Rick proposed marriage. However, forever sensible, Jeanne told Rick they should wait and so it wasn’t until August 3, 1985 that they tied the knot in her home town. They bought their first home together in Regina with the start of Jeanne’s new career, but settled in Edmonton two years later where they would remain and raise their family. Always organized and well-planned, the arrival of her children came in character, each three years apart – Megan on September 17, 1989 followed by Josh on November 1, 1992 and Michaela on August 17, 1995. Jeanne was a doting mother and was very involved in her children’s lives. For 8 years, Jeanne volunteered as a Girl Guide leader to be closer with her daughters but took on the additional responsibility of district commissioner because, as in all things, she went above and beyond what was asked of her. Jeanne had a kind heart and would drop everything to care for her family. Even as adults, her kids knew there was always a warm place for them in her embrace. She loved to cuddle and talk and gave the most rational and well thought advice. Soft-spoken and introverted, Jeanne also had the contrasting characteristic of being quite adventurous. She loved to travel. She went skydiving, bungee jumping, camping, zip lining and snorkeling. Jeanne started riding motorcycles to spend time with Rick but loved it herself and had recently joined a riding club. Incredibly intelligent, she loved to read and do puzzles. She played board games and card games and ALWAYS won. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband Rick Bell of Edmonton; three children: Megan Bell (Denver Finley), Josh Bell and Michaela Bell, all of Edmonton; siblings: Loraine Berry (Merle) of Gibbons, AB, Eileen Germaine of Humboldt, SK, Karen Germaine (Gerry) of Calgary, AB, Terry Blyth (Ian) of Raymore, SK, Barb Alberts (Blake) of Humboldt, Mark Hantke (Joan) of Saskatoon, Brenda Hantke (Garry Randall) of Humboldt, Ken Hantke (Pauline) of Humboldt, and Judy Hantke of Humboldt; in-laws: Darlene and Larry Bell of Humboldt; sister-in-law Laurie (Robert) Bain of Calgary; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Alfred Hantke and mother Agnes Hantke (nee Warren); one niece, Donna Germaine and one nephew, Christopher Stashko. The Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gibbons, AB. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Connelly-McKinley Funeral Homes.
