Irvin Kiehn
June 14, 1927 – May 25, 2016

The sudden and unexpected death of Mr. Irvin Norman Kiehn, 88 years, of Wynyard and formerly of Jansen, occurred on Wednesday, May 25, 2016.  Irvin, the youngest of 14 children, was born on June 14, 1927 at home on the family farm near Jansen to Karl and Amelia (nee Eichorst) Kiehn.  He grew up on the farm and attended Alton School.  On April 19, 1950, Irvin married Mary Leffler.  They operated a mixed farm near Jansen where they raised their family.  Horses were Irvin’s passion; he was a true cowboy, always sporting his cowboy hat.  He raised Tennessee Walking horses and was asked to lead parades in Jansen and the surrounding communities many times over the years. Irvin and Mary loved to dance. Over the years they enjoyed square dancing, round dancing and taught social dance.  Irvin did leather craft, making many items for family and friends.  He enjoyed a good card game and the camaraderie with friends.  As his health began to decline, he took up gardening or anything to keep him busy outside.  He was very proud of his children and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  In December 2012, they moved to Wynyard and recently celebrated 66 years of marriage.  Irvin will be lovingly remembered by his wife Mary; their four children, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Lorado Kiehn and family Reneé (Sean) Wasylenka and children Jade and Wiley, all of Wynyard; Cynthia Sundquist of Wynyard and family Tyson Sundquist (Rachel) of Wynyard and Gina (Steve) Laycock and son Owen of Saskatoon; Sylvia (Allen) Schroeder and family Matthew (Brianne) Schroeder and daughter Olivia, Dustin (Krista) Schroeder and Miranda Schroeder (Charles), all of Saskatoon; and Monty (Carrie) Kiehn and family Robert Kiehn and Jim Kiehn, all of Saskatoon; sisters-in-law, Hedwig Kiehn of Lanigan and Verna Adams of Wynyard and brother-in-law Gilbert (Eileen) Leffler of Vancouver; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, Karl and Amelia Kiehn; son-in-law, Don Sundquist; sisters: Hertha, Martha, Ludema, Erna, Selma, Nelda, Gertie, and Laura (in infancy); and brothers: Walter, Leo, Art, Rudy and Lloyd.  The Funeral Service for Irvin was held on Monday, May 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Jansen. Interment followed in the Jansen Cemetery.   Memorial donations in Irvin’s name may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan or Zion Lutheran Church, Jansen.
