Irene Kathleen (nee Roettger) Urick of Luther Special Care Home, Saskatoon, SK, passed away at St. Paul’s Hospital, Wednesday, November 28, 2017.  She was 89 years of age. Irene was born on April 14, 1928, to Bernard and Mary (nee Streitenberger) Roettger at home on their farm in the Wilmont district.  She was raised there and attended Stearns School.  After Irene finished school, she left home to work at the Eckl farm as a housekeeper.  During her time away she met Fred Urick.  It took some time for Fred to finally win Irene over and they got married July 8, 1947, in Wilmont, SK.  They moved to Irene's parents homestead and farmed and raised 11 children. Irene loved to cook, bake and always planted a huge garden.  She loved to entertain and loved family get togethers and socializing.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Her strength and determination is what made Irene the strong person she was.  No one could keep up to her pace.  They moved to Humboldt in 1978 and Irene worked at a daycare until she retired.  After her retirement, she took care of a special needs boy, Jarvis Lins, until he passed away.  She loved him like he was one of her own.  Irene's health deteriorated in 2016, and her daughter Charlene, became her caregiver, then in 2017 Irene resided at Porteous Lodge, and later at Luther Special Care Home. Irene and Fred celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on July 8, 2017. Irene will be lovingly remembered by her loving husband of 70 years, Fred Urick; her children:  Ron (Heather) Urick, Elaine (Danny) Baker, Wayne (Alvina) Urick, Murray (Hazel) Urick, Gary (Donna) Urick, Sharon (Bill) Cymbalisty, Charlene Ostapowich, Dianne (Glen) Jones, Marianne (Ian) Elliott, Randy Urick, Maureen Weigel; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; one brother, Raymond (Kathy) Roettger; two sisters, Marlene (Ervin) Jaeb, Darlene (Donald) Abday; and brother-in-law Elmer Weyland.  Irene was predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Mary (nee Streitenberger) Roettger; two sisters: Hilda (Ralph) Yungwirth, Ramona Weyland; two brothers, Clarence Roettger and Gilbert Roettger;  son-in-law, Mark Ostapowich; and daughter-in-law, Shelley Urick.
