Horst Kleinert
March 1, 1934 – October 23, 2015

The peaceful death of Mr. Horst Kleinert, 81 years of Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan occurred on Friday, October 23, 2015. Horst was born on March 1, 1934 in Penig, Germany to Johan and Clara Kleinert. He received all of his education in Germany. Horst worked as a mechanical engineer for Kaiser Mining in Jamaica for 16 years. He then worked for Kilborn Engineering in South Africa for a number of years. On December 23, 1977, Horst married Marlen Kunzel in Germany. In the late 70’s they came to Canada, settling in Toronto and then in 1981, they moved to Lanigan which has been their home until the present. He worked for Kilborn Engineering at the Potash Mine at Lanigan until his retirement in 1987. Horst built their family home on their acreage and also raised thoroughbred horses. He enjoyed collecting art and antiques, had an interest in politics and sports, especially soccer and read the Globe and Mail daily. Due to failing health, Horst has been a resident of the Central Parkland Lodge since 2009. Horst will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 37 years, Marlen Kleinert of Lanigan; their six sons and 13 grandchildren: Ronald (Michelle) and family Luke, Jake and Abby of Toronto, ON, Rick (Annetta) and family Adam, Alexandra and Alyssa of Toronto, ON, Enrico (Yoko) and family Daniel and Leah of Oakville, ON, Ronny (Lisa) and family Riley and Emma of New Zealand, Rob (Tonya) and family Daven and Arlo of Prince Albert, and Rory and daughter Kylie of Lanigan; mother-in-law, Ruth Kunzel of Lanigan; one sister and other relatives in Germany. He was predeceased by his parents, Johan and Clara Kleinert, one sister, and father-in-law, Gerard Kunzel. A Family Funeral Service was held for Horst.
