Gwendolyn Sutherland
April 14, 1920 – March 21, 2016

The death of Mrs. Gwendolyn “Gwen” (nee Carter) Sutherland of Chateau Providence, St. Brieux, SK, (and formerly of Humboldt, SK), occurred at her residence on Monday, March 21, 2016.  She was 95 years of age.  Gwen, one of six children, was born to Arthur and Rosanna (nee Davies) Carter on Wednesday, April 14, 1920, and grew up on the family farm near Wadena.  Gwen is survived by three children:  Ken (Maureen) Sutherland, David (Donna) Sutherland, and Catherine (Randy) Smith; son-in-law, Larry Burden (Sue Holm); 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and by one sister, Sybil Alexander.  She was predeceased by her husband, Spencer Sutherland; and by her daughter, Darolyn Burden.  Gwen had a wide circle of friends.  She especially enjoyed summer holidays at the cabin at Loon Lake, golfing with her friends, and playing bridge.  Gwen was an active member of Westminster United Church in Humboldt for many years.  Her love for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was unconditional.  She received exemplary care at Chateau Providence, her final home.  The Funeral Service was held at Westminster United Church, Humboldt, on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Rev. Brenda Curtis.  Others taking part were:  Elizabeth Smith and Shari Sutherland, scripture readers; Larry Burden, eulogist; Stacey Coleman, video tribute; Jason Burden, organist; Ken Sutherland, urn bearer; Avari Coleman and Guinevere Larrison, memorial book attendants; Matthew Smith and Chad Burden, memorial donation table attendants.  Interment followed at Humboldt Public Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be directed to Westminster United Church.
