Gary Eldon Keyes
January 28, 1957 – December 26, 2018

Gary Eldon Keyes of Watson, SK, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK, at the age of 61. Gary was born to Eldon and Nettie (nee Bear) Keyes on January 28, 1957, in Regina, SK. He grew up in Watson, where he enjoyed playing hockey and hanging out with his brothers, Wayne and Brian, and his many friends. As well, Gary loved singing and playing guitar with the Dahl Boys. He worked a good part of his life as a truck driver and also a caretaker at the rink and golf course in Watson up until the age of 35. At that time, Gary decided to continue his education and attained a degree in Education. He began his teaching career at the Kinistin Reserve near Melfort, SK. He also taught at Dillon, Wollaston, Hall Lake and lastly, was Principal at the Yellow Quill First Nation Reserve. Gary had a very large impact on the teachers and students at all of those places. He helped build a cabin for the students to enjoy in Hall Lake in 2015, which he donated a lot of his time and even personal belongings to. That was one of his pride and joys and he talked about it to everyone he met. That cabin is still being used and respected by the students of Hall Lake. Gary spent every summer golfing in Watson with his son Corey, brother Brian, and friends. He also very much enjoyed fishing and camping at his favorite lake, Kipabiskau, with the most important people in his life - his children and grandchildren. Gary will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He will always be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his son, Corey Keyes (Shanna); daughter, Karey Fetter (Mark); his four grandchildren: Dessa and Dustin Fetter, and Quinn and Isaac Keyes; the mother of his children and very special friend, Deb Keyes; his two brothers: Brian Keyes and Milton Keyes; and by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Eldon and Nettie (nee Bear) Keyes; one brother, Wayne Keyes; and by one sister, Bernice Keyes. Gary’s Celebration of Life took place at Trinity United Church, Watson, on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Brenda Curtis. The urnbearers were Dessa Fetter, Dustin Fetter and Quinn Keyes. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Watson Golf Club or the Watson Arena.
