Etta Gertrude Deutscher
June 8, 1919 – March 3, 2017

Etta was born in Wakaw, the fourth child of Frank and Anna (nee Kampman) Reinhart.  She grew up on the family farm near St. Benedict.  Family was always an important part of Etta’s life and she enjoyed spending time with her brothers, sisters, cousins and friends. She completed her high school in Prince Albert and later enrolled in the nursing program at St Paul’s hospital from which she graduated with an award for general proficiency.  She met her husband, Michael, while he was teaching in the St. Benedict region.  Etta and Mike married in 1943 prior to his departure to serve overseas.  Etta nursed at Saskatoon, Cudworth and Lethbridge.  On Mike’s return, they moved to Saskatoon where he completed his studies. Their seven sons were born in the cities of Saskatoon, Regina, and Humboldt.  Etta was always busy with volunteer work with the Hospital Auxiliary, the Catholic Women’s League, Humboldt Museum, and St. Augustine’s Parish. Her hobbies over the years included bowling, bridge, and painting, which was her favorite pastime.  Etta’s artwork has been displayed in many locations, although her most cherished are in the homes of her family.  Humboldt and the cabin at Wakaw Lake became the centers of many family get-togethers over the decades. Etta will be missed dearly by her sister Anna; sister-in-law Maxine; and her children: Michael (Patricia) of Victoria, Tom (Marci) of Saskatoon, daughter-in-law Donna of Saskatoon, Gary of Humboldt, Ross (Maria) of Calgary, Joe (Lorrie) of Edmonton.  Grandma Etta was loved by her 17 grandchildren: Michael (Cham), Erik (Riza), Matthew (Kim), Sarah, Kirsten (Aaron), Tom, Luke, Ben (Kristine), Meghan (Aaron), Patrick (Judy), Jeremiah (Jackie), Mary, Mark, Greg (Jessica), Julianna, Paul, and Karl. She was blessed with 16 wonderful great-grandchildren. Etta was predeceased by her loving husband, Mike; her sons: Richard and Paul; great-grandson Max; brothers: Lawrence (Carole), Raymond, and Matthew; sisters: Appolonia (Ray), and Marie (Marcel); and Mike’s siblings: Wilhemina (John), Rose (Joseph), Ralph (Catherine)(Irene), Helen (Ben), Henry (Myrtle), Tony (Bernice), Bert (Winnifred), Adam (Joyce), Father Joe, John, Lilian, and Lloyd (Marilyn).
