Emma Schidlowsky
March 6, 1922 - February 22, 2016

It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of their dear mother Mrs. Emma Schidlowsky 93 years of St. Mary’s Villa Humboldt.  She passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her family.  Emma Annie was born on March 6, 1922 to Lawrence and Malvina (nee Kosokowsky) Germain. She was the fourth of 16 children and resided in the Carmel District. She attended Hillsley School and was kept busy helping with domestic duties as there was always an endless list of chores that needed tending. She met Rudolph Schidlowsky while he was the rural mail carrier. On October 2, 1940 Rudolph and Emma were married at Immaculate Conception Church.  Rudolph enlisted in the Army Postal Corp and was assigned to many locations throughout Canada. Shortly thereafter they began to raise a family. After the war they returned to the Carmel area where Rudolph farmed, bought grain and became Postmaster at Carmel. This work kept him plenty busy so Emma took over postal duties as well as maintained the household. They were blessed with six children who helped fill the house with love, laughter and all that goes with raising a family. Emma shared and passed along many of her talents such as quilting, knitting and crocheting to her children. She completed her last afghan just a short time ago. Emma was very competitive and enjoyed beating you in various games like Yahtzee, Crib or Kaiser. Bingo, Word Puzzles and Gin Rummy were also high on her list.  Emma’s jelly rolls and cakes were her favourites with her family along with German soups like plumasupp, krutbartsht and chilchasupp. Each holiday had a special German dish. In the early 80’s Rudolph and Emma moved to Humboldt. Years later she moved to Bethany Village and in 2014 to St. Mary’s Villa. Emma was a devout Catholic and was a member of the Christian Mothers in Carmel and CWL in Humboldt. Her  devotion to the rosary was evident to her last breath. Emma was a very gentle, kind and generous lady who will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by her six children: Ralph (Valerie) Schidlowsky of Laird, Wayne (Colleen) Schidlowsky of Humboldt, Lois (Edward) Thoms of Pilger, Annette (Gary) Engele of Humboldt, Norbert (Wanda) Schidlowsky of Saskatoon and Rosemary  (Kelvin) Watts of Humboldt; 20 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren; two sisters: Loretta (John) Greer of LaSalle, ON and Genevieve Doetzel of Humboldt; brother-in-law: Wilfred Schidlowsky of Yellowknife, NT; sisters-in-law Margaret Germain of St. Albert, AB and Fran Schidlowsky of Humboldt; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Emma was predeceased by her parents, husband, a grandchild, a great grandchild, along with many brothers, sisters and in-laws.  A Prayer Service was held on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. and Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. both services were held at St. Augustine R.C. Church in Humboldt. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations in Emma’s memory may be directed to St. Mary’s Villa Foundation.
