Elmer Lieland Uhrich
March 9, 1934 – May 8, 2016

The death of Mr. Elmer Lieland Uhrich of Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake, SK, (and formerly of Humboldt and LeRoy, SK), occurred at his residence on Sunday, May 8, 2016.  He was 82 years of age. Elmer was born on Friday, March 9, 1934, to Carl and Anna (née Rode) Uhrich at home on the farm in the R.M. of LeRoy near Jansen Lake.  That same year, the family moved to the Wolverine municipality.  The nearest town was Burr, where they received the mail and did their grocery shopping.  Elmer attended Attica School which was about two miles from home.  Elmer and his two older sisters, Audrey and Christina, would save time by cutting across the fields when conditions permitted.  As a young man, Elmer farmed with his father and then continued on his own when Carl retired in 1960.  He enjoyed farming and animals, especially horses.  He also worked with the CPR from 1952-1963. Elmer moved into Humboldt in 1975, where he enjoyed bowling, Bronco games, dancing, playing cards and visiting with friends and family.  Two generations of nieces and nephews have fond memories of many Kaiser games trying to beat Uncle Elmer.  An avid gardener, Elmer took great joy in watching things grow.  And, as he always grew more than he needed, friends and family appreciated his gift.  Elmer was a supporter of numerous charities.  A hard worker, he was always ready to lend a hand wherever needed.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  Elmer is survived by his sister, Audrey Crowter of Humboldt; nephews:   Bill (Darlene) Crowter of Saskatoon, and Ken (Val) Crowter of LeRoy; nieces:   Denise (Dan) Murray-Berg of Hagen, Joan (Jim) Murray of Bonnyville, AB, Colleen (Keith) Wickenhauser of Saskatoon, and Karen Crowter of Humboldt; and by many great-nieces-and-nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Anna (née Rode) Uhrich; sister, Christina Murray; and by brothers-in-law:   Reg Murray, Archie Crowter, and Gus Johnson.  The Funeral Service was held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Humboldt, on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. John Rapp. The organist was Elaine Siegel.  Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Elmer’s life”.  Active pallbearers were Dion Berg, Derek Berg, Trayton Crowter, Michael Crowter, Keith Wickenhauser, and Tori Crowter.   Interment followed at LeRoy Public Cemetery, LeRoy.  Memorial donations may be directed to either Bethany Pioneer Village or Kinsmen Telemiracle.
