Caroline Bay

October 9, 1921 – August 28, 2016

The death of Mrs. Caroline (nee Stadnichuk) Bay of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Sunday, August 28, 2016, at the age of 94 years.  Caroline was born on Sunday, October 9, 1921, in Westby, North Dakota, to John and Antonia (nee Poluk) Stadnichuk.   She was two years old when the family moved to Saskatchewan and homesteaded in the Guernsey area. Caroline was the second oldest of five children who all attended Duffville School.   By the age of 14, she started to sew and eventually became a self-taught accomplished seamstress. Caroline met William “Bill” at a family wedding and, after a courtship, they were married on January 20, 1940. They purchased a quarter of land northwest of Guernsey and cleared the land to grow crops and have a large garden. Their oldest child and only daughter Pauline was born followed by two sons, Peter and Joseph. Times were hard and Bill took up employment in various logging sites, leaving Caroline with the small children and daily chores. She milked cows to sell cream to help buy groceries and took in sewing to make ends meet. In 1952, after years of farming, they moved to Humboldt and were blessed with two additional sons, Stephen and Donald. Both Bill and Caroline valued family and treasured every addition to include grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  Faith also had a special meaning to Caroline and they were active members of All Saints Ukrainian Catholic Church for many years. She was a deeply compassionate woman who cared and followed the lives of all her family members.  She leaves to mourn and will be sadly missed by her five children, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren:  PAULINE (Otto) Fahl and family, JOANNE (Jeff) Blinco and their family, Riely (Courtney) and children Kennedy and Weston, Rayson (Rylan), and Shael, and JACKIE Dickens and daughter Candice; PETER (Karen) Bay and family, CHRIS (Leanne) Bay and children Coulton and Rheianna, and CORY (Michelle) Bay and expecting;  JOSEPH (Vera) Bay and family, TODD (Melissa) Bay and children Brehanna and Kieran, KELLY (Shannon) Bay and children Kloe and Kyuss, and SHANON (Jason) Pries and children, Jarin, Kale, and Caris;  STEVE (Sandy) Bay and family, NICOLE (Ryan) Maki and son Mathew, BILL (Jenn) Bay and son Deegan, CHRISTIAN (Sharleen) Reed and children Alissa and Aidan, PENNY (Mike) Miles, his daughter Haley, and their sons Ryker and Mason, and TAMMY (Hieu) Lam and daughter Felyce, and KENNY Brown; and DONALD (Renee) Bay and their daughter JAMIE Bay (Sheldon).  Also grieving is her brother Edward Stadnichuk; many nieces and nephews;   sister-in-law June Stadnichuk; and many members of the Bay Family.  She was predeceased by her husband William Bay; parents, John and Antonia (nee Poluk) Stadnichuk; two sisters:   Mary Nazaruk and  Anne Prebushewski; brother, Pete Stadnichuk; and by her great-grandson Richard Dickens.  The Funeral Mass was offered at All Saints Ukrainian Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Friday, September 2, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Mykola Romanets.  Others taking part were:  Jamie Bay, crossbearer; Liz Bunko, scripture reader; Sally Indzeoski, cantor; Verna Bay, memorial table attendant.  Honorary pallbearers were “Caroline’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all others who shared in her life”.  Active pallbearers were Kelly Bay, Todd Bay, Billy Bay, Chris Bay, Jeff Blinco, and Jason Pries.  Interment followed at All Saints Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. Mary’s Villa Foundation or the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation General Equipment Fund.
