Mr. Carl Berthold Bunz of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK, passed away at his residence on Sunday, April 2, 2017.  He was 92 years of age.  Carl, the third of eight sons, was born on Saturday, May 10, 1924, to Adam and Bertha (nee Jung) Bunz at home on their farm in the St. Gertrude district.   He attained his education at St. Gertrude School.  Carl worked at home for a few years after leaving school, and was then   employed during  the winters from 1943 to 1953 working in the bush camps in Ontario with several of his brothers, cousins, and friends.  During the summers and harvest time, he worked at home and for farmers in the surrounding area.  As well, Carl was employed at a dairy farm during the winters of 1953 and 1954.  In 1955, he moved to LeRoy and was the grader operator there for 11 years.  He also worked on the horse-drawn dray hauling water, coal and express.  Never one to be idle, Carl worked in his shoe repair shop in the evenings.  From 1968 to 1976, he was employed at various farms, but was laid up for two months after a cow gave him a nasty kick.  After that, Carl moved to Humboldt where he worked at the Co-Op Lumber Yard for two years before retiring.  In his retirement, his hobbies included making and giving away countless spool-knitted rugs and mats, and also made wool flowers which he sewed together to make table covers, ponchos and bedspreads.  Going to Trans Café at noon for a hamburger deluxe became a daily highlight for him.  He is fondly remembered for his amazing memory, and his teasing grin with a twinkle in his bright blue eyes.  Carl is survived by his brother, Ottomar Bunz of Humboldt, SK; sister-in-law, Lillian Bunz of Wynyard, SK; Rose Schlekewy of Humboldt, SK; brother-in-law, Lloyd Van Gundy of Rocky Mountain House, AB; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.  He was predeceased by his parents, Adam and Bertha (nee Jung) Bunz; six brothers:  Johannes, Henry, Raymond, Norbert, Edmond, and Walter; and by five sisters-in-law: Marilyn, Helen, Heidi “Hazel”, Viola, and Ann.  The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C.
